Lantus has a different curve than PZI

I will be switching my cat to Lantus in two weeks from PZI. The vet explained that the nadir comes towards the end of the insulin cycle not at the +6 (half-way between shots) like with PZI.

Does anyone have a Lantus curve document?

Lantus curves vary. Some have late nadirs but far from all.

I find studying the SSs one of the best way to learn.

Guess your vet will tell you about the U100 syringes too...I think you will have to get U100 syringes with half-unit markings so you will be able to measure the .5u doses too. I get mine from Walamart... Reli-On.3/10ml 29G 12.7mm (1/2")
(PZI is a U40 insulin, right?) There is an overlap in the Lantus action too....I will leave the rest to the more experienced people here..

I think your vet is looking at the Lantus website for information. I've linked the graph from their site. The issue with the graph is that cats metabolize insulin twice as fast as humans and the graphs are based on human data. Humans require one shot of Lantus per day; cats require two shots. If you imagine those curves by moving the time points to cover 12 hours you will have a better sense of the differences based on whether the insulin is short, intermediate, or long-acting. Like Lantus, PZI is a long acting insulin. The difference may be more in the shape of the curve. Lantus, once an effective dose has been established has a "flat" curve.
