Lantus cartridges and pens

Is Lantus available from US pharmacies in both cartridges and pens? Does one tend to be cheaper than the other?

I use Lantus and I got my first 5 cartridges from Costco at I think the price was around $175.00. Then I got 5 solar pens from Walgreens free with coupon, but if I had to pay at Walgreens I think it was in the 200.00 range, those are the only 2 places I checked.

This is in California.

I have read that the pens are best to use - you get more bang for your buck - I think using the other you end up tossing more out. Someone else will be by with the specfics. I just called Walmart today & they quoted me 215.30 & Costco quoted me $190.11
Lantus pens are sold in a package - so 5 pens which last 28 days - some folks use them a lot longer - but I am leary of doing that -- just me being obsessive I am sure LOL Anyway.. I got in on the free deal offer too, Baby started Lantus about 2 months ago.
 
Nicole is confusing the cartridge with vials. Both cartridge and pens are available in the US. The prices are the same although in my area (Chicago) one of the news channels compared prices between Costco, Walgreens, CVS and one other pharmacy (Target, maybe?). Costco was routinely the least expensive.

One other issue to be aware of. Some university medical center pharmacies will sell a single cartridge or pen rather than selling them in a box of 5. Their prices are often competitive, as well.

What do you mean I am confusing the cartridge with the vials? I only mentioned the pens.. I had always heard that they last about 28 days & are the most cost effective.

you said, "pens are best to use - you get more bang for your buck - I think using the other you end up tossing more out." lantus cartridges and pens hold the same amount of insulin (3ml each) and come in a box of five. they're comparable. you end up tossing more insulin out if you use a lantus vial (10ml). lantus cartridges and pens usually prove to be more cost effective.

many have used lantus cartridges, pens, and vials for up to 6 months... i've even heard of some using them to the last drop. unfortunately, there are others who have not been able to get 28 days out of a vial, pen, or cartridge.

venita, some pharmacies will sell a single cartridge or pen, but not many.
 
Venita...send me a PM and let me know why you're asking. I have some Lantus that I might be willing to give away.
