Greetings, Lantus Land! It's been quite a week since Karre's 1 Month OTJ Caturday Condo!
His Majesty Karre the Emperor of Basically Everything sends his commendations especially to those Lantus Cats and Beans who have seen themselves through certain cycles of the distinctly dramatic persuasion. He took it upon himself to supervise Jane the Lowly Minion while she went back over the past week or so and picked out a few LL Highlights. Here they are:
Claudia/Rocket's 6th September Update Condo, in which LL gathers together to send support, love and vines to our dear Claudia, whose legendary furboy Rocket may be readying himself for his next journey... Claudia and Rocket, you are in our hearts and prayers.
Lisa/Leo's 7th Semptember Condo, in which for everyone's learning pleasure we find a lively dramatization of how to steer cycles with foods of various carb percentages. His Royal Highness *personally* supervised this one. And there's some rhyming. Just saying.
Alexa/Reuben's 6th September Condo, in which there is *another* food discussion regarding the pros and cons of using high-sugar carb options (honey/syrup/karo), adding them to SLC home-made food (SLC= Super Low Carb, ca. 1-2%), and possible alternatives to high-sugar additions to up the carb percentage of home-made SLC foods.
Barb/Checkers's 6th September Condo, in which Checks dramatically demonstrates the importance of spot checks throughout - he threw Barb a late LOW drop to 30s! Great catch, Barb!
Kristin/Abby's 6th September Condo. Returning from the Falls and recovering from DKA, we welcome you both back to LL!
Lyresa/KT's 7th September Condo, in which we rejoice with Lyresa, who won't need eye surgery after all!
Jenn/Tidus's 7th September Condo, in which we realize that vets do *not* automatically know the best way to use Lantus just because they are professionals. This condo reminds us of that some vets don't know about the dangers of dose hopping, HUGE dosecreases, and so on. Thank you, Jenn, and good luck with the TR-protocol-based 2.25u increase.
Dale/Max's 4th September Condo, in which Max is seen flirting shamelessly with a reduction - but then, compare that condo to Dale/Max's 7th September Condo, in which he shows yet again that while he'll flirt, he won't quite follow through just yet. Read it for some suggested ideas on how to allow a reduction to declare itself by adjusting the feeding routine when the bean can test, is confident, and has data as well as experience to do so.
In other LL overview news: Tamara/Ella's recovery from Ella's dental is going ahead - keep it up, girls! Carla/Furball have been seen dipping into greens - Hooray! Helen/Rosy are keeping on keeping on, doing Rosy's dose dance - hang in there! Ann/Maggie are coping with Maggie's recent DX of megacolon - good going, you guys! Jill/Charlie are showing some great progress, kitty and bean alike - great to see! Mike/BJ are still battling BJ's higher-than-normal numbers while BJ's infection is likely still clearing and the ABs are lasting for few more days - Chin up, lads, you'll get back on track! Wendy/Neko showed some pretty, pretty greens at now 1 month post-SRT - Fantastic to see this, you guys!! Shai/Fitzel are still dealing with the Pirate's reluctance to be tested and are still considering an animal communicator - any progress on that front, Shai? Tracy/Leo are at a little over a month and a half after SRT now, and down to 9u, making lovely progress especially after Leo's bout of pancreatitis - Congratulations!! Melanie(/Racci) is doing splendidly at catching Racci's favoured drops into the 30s, and has been helping out wonderfully on LL - Thanks so much, Melanie, for so often being there to take over my hand-offs! Marje/Gracie continue on their mutual road to recovery - We're all rooting for you both, ladies! Rhiannon/Shadow are doing beautifully with all those great green numbers, and Rhiannon is doing a great job of sending alerts when a condo needs attention - Thanks, Rhiannon! Carl/Bob continue to be a wonderfully supportive, knowledgeable voice throughout FDMB - Thank you so much, Carl! Also, Linda of Linda and Bear Man has begun a very exciting new life adventure by starting her schooling and training to become a vet tech - Congrats on your BOS, Linda, and the very best of luck in your studies! (And salutation to my favourite rebel, Linda's cat Pinkerton! This one's for you!)
For those of you who are not mentioned by name this time - Fear not, most likely you will be next time
LL being the wonderfully extensive community that it has grown into, I simply can't manage to name every kitty and bean in one condo. But like many other oldtimers, I do see you all and try to stop by everyone over the course of a week. And remember that any and all of you are invited, ANY TIME, to pop into the most current Caturday Condo (or send a PM) if you'd like me to stop round and take a look or just give some extra support.
And now for some WCRs from our Hout Bay Pride. His Majesty continues as regally as ever, ruling with gentle paw despite the occasional stern glance when one of his Lowly Minions does not perform all duties perfectly. He is, of course, purrfectly justified in this - after all, Lowly Minion Jane's infractions include being remiss by a full minute and a half when having been commanded to open a can of tuna, as well as having failed only this morning to open the sliding door into the garden and thus forcing His Royal Highness to use the *catflap* (perish the thought!)... To name but a few.
Even so, His Majesty is the picture of health (literally - photos are forthcoming after this). All 5 Ps are in place, and he has given us a few blissful days of wholly anxiety-free green (including today's 5.1/92). King Henry is beginning to engage in outdoor games with everyone, chasing reeds dragged across the lawn, pouncing Luca and Magpie, and keeping on coming into his own after now a little over 2 months in his new home here with us. Queen Magpie has taken him aside a few times to instruct him in the requisite feline art of BMC (bean mind control), and Henry is showing himself to be an avid pupil. Lowly Minion Jane finds herself being drawn to the fridge with an urge to slice the specially roasted duck breast thinly, warm it, and offer it to our resident Coon Cat King  Luca is up to his usual tricks, racing up and down trees and pouncing anything and everything that he happens upon during his garden adventures. Everybody's happy
In case this little anecdote escaped LL attention in the last condo, a little re-run: Lowly Minion Jane recently caused King Henry to be very concerned indeed for her mental health, since he saw her *voluntarily* submerged in WATER! She decided to open this year's swimming season early, right after August, which is the coldest month of the year down here  So, she went swimming in the 17° pool after training, and came out the colour of her favourite coffee mug: lobster-red! She ought to have known better, not least because Henry didn't need *another* reason to become concerned - he had to go to the vet on the 6th to have his right ear checked. He kept scratching at it and shaking his head, and folding the ear downwards. They had to sedate him, poor baby, to take a closer look. No foreign body, but a little scratch - maybe from a bit of brotherly rough-and-tumble with Luca, oran encounter with the neighbour's tomcat, maybe from a pesky twig out during a garden adventure, hard to say. My money's on a little kitty spat with the neighbour's cat - he has a small patch of missing fur under his eye. The vet put him on Synulox for a week to ward off an infection in that ear. (On the drive to the vet, I promised Henry that I'd make him his very favourite treat, pan-fried (and then skinned) duck breast. Sure enough, when he got home, still a bit groggy, he went and sat down by the fridge, meowing reproachfully at me. I swear he knows the words "duck breast" by now  He got his promised treat, of course. I was a very sneaky bean and hid his first dose of ABs in a piece of duck breast, too, but he didn't mind. He finished the whole thing, about a palm-size! And then he went with his little round belly and napped on the art chair. Gotta love it.)
And now for the customary visual section of Karre's Caturday Condo - a few pictures from our catwalk this morning. Enjoy, and Thank You for visiting! Do post if and when you have the time - any and all WCRs and WBRs are welcome!
Happy Caturday, all! Hugs,
Jane.
Another Mandela Gold strelizia (and the cold, cold pool behind it). And a *very* busy bee with big fat pollen packets already on its legs. And the apricot tree heralding springtime!
