Kim and Jasmine
Member Since 2020
Hello. My name is Kim and my baby Jasmine was diagnosed with FD on June 11, 2020. Jasmine is 7 years old and is my best friend. I have 3 other cats 2 of which are her litter mates. Jasmine had been eating alot yet losing weight. She was down to 8lbs from 12. I brought her to vet thinking hyperthyroidism. Her BG was 366 and fructosamine 576. Vet ordered 2u Lantus 2x day. She started insulin on june 13 but I only gave 1u because I did some research first and got nervous. I also changed everyone's diet to strictly wet food. FF and tiki cat. Vet only saw her once more since then for 6hr check and doesnt want to see her for another month! I actually started giving her 1.5 u about a week ago. Her numbers are still high especially in the morning. She has only been below 200 three times. Btw, vet said not to monitor but I have been. I am using contour next one. Since starting insulin she is not the same spunky, loving baby. Shes having some better days tho and I know it will take time. I just want my baby back and can't believe this happened to her. She is smallest of the bunch. Her brothers are 20lbs each! She also has a history of surgeries when she was 11 months old. She apparently was eating all my daughters hair ties and rubber bands that extended from her small intestine to her esophagus. She was cut in 3 placed to remove them. Her esophagus, stomach and small intestine. Needless to say it was a trying time and she was on many meds post surgery. She is a trooper and a fighter and I love her to pieces. So that's Jasmine in a nutshell! Sorry for the long post
It sounds like you are doing a great job with Jasmine so far. FF and tiki cat are excellent foods for diabetic kitties, lantus is a very good insulin, and you are home testing!
