Jojo Update (Continuation from Help with Dosing)

Hi all,

Just wanted to give an update on how Jojo is doing today. This is technically a continuation from this post: Help with Dosing

I was finally able to test Jojo's ketones today. It took 7 test strips and some sanity, but I got the reading. He's at 0.1! When he was first diagnosed on 8/26/2026, he was at 1.2.

Aside from getting the ketones, not much else has happened today. I did notice he got sluggish again today around the +2 mark and through about +6. Now around +7, he's beginning to feel better. I'm thinking he may not be used to having low BG numbers. I'll continue to monitor throughout the day and see how his behavior and energy levels change, especially how they change after him PM shot.

@Suzanne & Darcy

Apologies for tagging you. I just wanted to ask for some advice tonight, as it will be in regards for tomorrow's AM shot. Jojo went under 90 for his BG a few times today, once after AM and currently he's at 78. I likely should've lowered his dose for PM to 1.50u, but I didn't. For his AM shot tomorrow, I thinking I'm going to lower it to 1.50u.

Also, he is doing better, even at lower numbers! He was sluggish in the morning, but started to perk up around +5. For the rest of today, and currently, he's been his normal self, aside from being a little more energetic.

Wow. I like tonight’s numbers a lot! So pretty! Very stable too in the greens.

It’s fine to lower to 1.5 in the morning. Let’s see how it goes. Maybe he will continue to do well. We can always go back up.

@Suzanne & Darcy

Good afternoon, I apologize for having to ask you for more advice.
Jojo's BG today has kind of stumped me on what I should do about his dosage. I decided to keep him on 1.5u since yesterday morning (10/16/2026) as his BG seemed to be in a fine range. But, today his BG went low, and now it's nearing 150. I honestly have no clue if I should decrease the dose, increase, or keep the same, especially since yesterday his BG changed normally. I know that he could be experiencing a bounce, but I honestly don't feel like I'm experienced enough to determine that right now 😓.

Again, I apologize for asking for so much help from you. I really appreciate it, and I of course understand if you are getting irritated by this!

Not irritated at all. That’s what I’m here for… to help. Let me look at the data and reply.

Sorry I didn’t catch you prior to shot time. Jojo earned a reduction today if you are following SLGS. all the numbers today were very safe numbers and Jojo did very well. Did you need to do anything other than give a low carb snack today. I see you shot 1.5 tonight so please just make sure to keep Jojo well fed with snacks at the appropriate times and keep tabs on the BG so you can get ahead of anything. Post here if you need help! Please do. I will keep looking at the app on my phone to see if there are any alerts.

I'll make sure to watch his BG tonight. I didn't have to do anything special today, just had to give him his snacks earlier than usual. I'll reduce for his AM shot and make sure he's doing well tomorrow too!

Thank you!

Okay. That’s good to hear that you just moved his snack times around but you just kept to his usual food. Good work! You have done well today.

Don’t be afraid of greens. They are the healing greens. You’ve got this.

Congratulations on shooting your first greens (last night and this morning!) Jojo is doing fantastic. He had a really good surf in green last night! I just love watching his progress. I checked in last night about midnight (my time) to make sure everything looked good with Jojo! Thanks for entering the tests on your spreadsheet. Otherwise I would worry!

I know it may be a little over-kill to test him every hour after he gets his AM and PM doses, but I'd rather not risk missing anything, especially since it seems insulin may start to kick in sooner than expected. I'm excited to see what 1.25u does for him! It's still hard to believe he was once at 3u.

Part of me is hoping it's a bounce, but I'm not too sure. I went with 1u since he went under 90mg today and was under 90 for a while. I suppose we'll see if 1u is too little!
Yes. That was the correct decision for the time being. Good job. We will let things settle for a few days and then we will have a better idea. No worries.

I'll give 1u a few days to see. It seems he may have had a bounce a few days ago, but I could be wrong. I'll keep you updated if anything changes!

Look at Jojo go! He actually earned another reduction today.

What is he primarily eating now?
Nice! I'll make sure to adjust it tomorrow.

He's currently eating half Pate and half Shreds, but that'll be changing to 75% pate and 25% shreds tomorrow. He hasn't been minding the Pate thankfully, so I'm hoping switching to 75% pate will be alright with him. He's getting the plain salmon flavor for the pate, while the shreds is the plain chicken flavor. I am slightly worried he'll get bored of the salmon flavor, but his digestion issues have really gone down since he started to get those two plain flavors.

So you definitely don’t want to skip any reductions while you are going even lower carb. He probably will need less insulin and maybe we can even get him into remission after the dental…. Who knows. I would love to help you with that! Or at least maybe we will get him down to a very small dose.

And I just read your notes about how playful he is now. He is LOVING the normal, healthy green BG numbers! This is why I do what I do here! I love it. This is sooo good to hear!

I thought it was tomorrow. Good luck dear little Jojo!

Please let me know how he is doing as soon as you can tomorrow!
He will get dropped off tomorrow very early morning, and get picked up around 3-4 PM, depending on how long the after recovery takes.

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I'm honestly hopeful over the idea of him going into remission. He's really gone down on his insulin and his numbers seem to be very stable! I'll make sure to go down to .5 units, along with checking his BG often, especially as he's going down into lower carbs.

Due to Jojo fasting tonight and not eating most of tomorrow, should I give him a little snack when he gets home, or just wait until dinner? I know feeding within 6 hours before a AMPS and PMPS can screw up the numbers, which is why I'm asking.

Also yes, he is so incredibly playful. Still lazy like normal, but he gets very energetic at night. I love hearing the happy chirps and meows he makes as he's sprinting around trying to get our other cat.

You know, that sort of depends on Jojo and how hungry he might be and how he is feeling. I would not worry about the two hour rule for tomorrow…. besides, you have plenty of data now to tell you how much he goes up after eating… which right now isn’t very much. When my cats come home from dental procedures, I usually feed them a small amount if they’re up to it. If they seem super hungry, then I give them a small amount of food — like a tablespoon of food — and then I’ll wait a little bit and see if they are keeping it down. Some of my kitties do not want to eat at all when they first get home, and others seem ravenous, so I’ll feed them a small amount…, Wait 30 minutes… See if they keep it down… feed them a little bit more. Maybe after a small amount of food, you could then wait until dinner time…. just give him something to take the edge off of the hunger. You will be able to judge his demeanor tomorrow.

Okay, I'm going to see if he's up for a small snack once he gets home, then wait until dinner. I'm not too sure he'll want to eat when he gets home, especially since he tends to be shaken up after vet appointments. I'll keep you updated on if he does seem to have an appetite at all, and how he's doing in general!
