Okay - here's my first attempt to publish. Not sure I did it right. I did not see a 'world' or 'us' tab.

Welcome Debie and Jezebel.
I can see your spreadsheet just fine.
You will get lots of support and help here.
How is Jezebel, today?

Your spreadsheet (SS) is up and running! I'm also linking your posts from the Health Board so that people here have some idea about what information you've already received. Posts from Thurs. to today: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13857. We routinely link our previous thread (We call them condos.) on the Lantus board to your first post of the day.

Any chance of your getting a curve today? There's information about doing a 2-hour or 3-hour curve in the New to Lantus/Levemir sticky above as well in the other link I provided.

Also, what is your name? I'm assuming your kitty is Jezebel.

A few things that weren't stressed over on Health. Since you have just recently transitioned Jezebel to canned food, her blood glucose (BG) numbers may drop. Dry food, no matter low in carbs, is usually higher in carbs than canned food and is not metabolized as quickly. I only scanned the Health post, but it didn't look like anyone provided the links to information on feline nutrition or to Janet & Binky's lists which are charts of the carb content of most of the major brands and flavors of cat food. We consider low carb (LC) as under 10% carb content. Also, you do not need to feed your cat only twice a day. Most of us feed frequent, small meals since it puts less pressure on a healing pancreas and helps to keep BG levels more even.

I would not recommend using the litter crystals to get a glucose reading. Urine glucose is neither a reflection of current level nor is it accurate. Urine takes a while to collect and be expelled so the level you are getting is hours old. Also, unless it is past a certain concentration of glucose (i.e., above 180uL), urine glucose doesn't register. As a result, if levels are low, you will not know, which could be a problem. Urine glucose is also influenced by volume so if Jezebel is drinking a lot, you will not get a true level. Blood glucose will tell you what Jezebel's levels are minute to minute and you will definitely be able to test the range of levels. You will know if levels are low enough to be of concern.

You asked about the "Only Natural Pet Glucose Wellness." I've never seen anyone mention it here. I don't know whether any of the ingredients have been tested in cats. My reaction is that since cats are obligate carnivores, I somehow don't seen them as naturally grazing on fenugreek, olive leaf, or cinnamon.

There is a ton of information in the permanent notes at the top of the Board. It is, frankly, overwhelming. Please read the notes -- especially the information on our dosing protocol -- the Tight Regulation Protocol. Also, visit our condos, read our SSs, ask questions, and post daily (one condo, per cat, per day).

Hi Deb and Jezebel and welcome! This is a great board and you will really profit from the wealth of cumulative experience here. Sienne has already given you some good advice. All of the info. can be overwhelming at first, but just take your time and it will gradually fall into place. Your spreadsheet looks fine. Ask questions and the people here will help you. Good job in learning how to test so quickly! Jezebel is a beautiful kitty.

Just read about a 'curve'. It's been 3 hours since our last reading - pre breakfast. I'll test her again now. Just got 330. Down from 387 this morning.
I am amazed as to how many of these cats are 'tuxedos'...
Debie & Jez

Okay....her totals for today have been posted. Is it typical for the level to continue to drop? Even right before the next shot?
7am = 387 1 u administered
10:15 = 330
3:15 = 289
6:pm = 266 1 u administered

Welcome to LL Debie and Jezebel :YMHUG:

Yes you can see the BG to continue to go down even right up until the PM shot. Every cat is different (ECID) and Jezebel may not always react that way either. You are doing great!!!

I would test at +5.

I think you are beginning to see the results of getting rid of the dry food.

I'm not saying that you will need it, but do you have any high carb (HC) canned food in the house? These are the varieties of FF that have gravy (they are grilled or marinated varieties.) If not, please take a look at Janet & Binky's list that I linked above and pick up several cans of HC. We use this to steer numbers if they are running low. We also keep a stock of Karo or other syrup or sweetener (maple syrup, honey etc.) in the case of very low numbers. Dry food, while HC takes too long to increase BG and too long to get out of the system.

Thanks. I have some FF grilled food. Seafood feast in gravy. I'll check her again in 1/2 hour. Her behavior hasn't changed...but I'm watching.
What number am I looking for before I add some carbs? I also have honey on hand.
Debie & Jez

Numbers above 50 are just fine. (I know that sounds terribly low and probably scary.) A newly diagnosed diabetic cat earns a dose reduction if numbers drop below 50. If you look at most of our SSs, you'll see our kitties will drop lower than than 40 and be perfectly fine. We use either medium carb (MC) or some of the gravy from the HC (either by itself or on top of a bite or two of LC) to bring numbers up a bit if they are in the 40s or lower. Many cats will only need a bit of their regular LC food to bump numbers up. You'll be able to figure out with Jezebel just how carb sensitive she is. You'll be surprised at how easy it can be to steer numbers with food.

Good morning Debbie and Jez. Welcome to Lantus Land.
You can start a new thread for today.
You can put the date, cats's name and AMPS number in the subject line.
Then let us know how Jez is doing today.
