Your spreadsheet (SS) is up and running! I'm also linking your posts from the Health Board so that people here have some idea about what information you've already received. Posts from Thurs. to today:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13857. We routinely link our previous thread (We call them condos.) on the Lantus board to your first post of the day.
Any chance of your getting a
curve today? There's information about doing a 2-hour or 3-hour curve in the
New to Lantus/Levemir sticky above as well in the other link I provided.
Also, what is your name? I'm assuming your kitty is Jezebel.
A few things that weren't stressed over on Health. Since you have just recently transitioned Jezebel to canned food, her blood glucose (BG) numbers may drop. Dry food, no matter low in carbs, is usually higher in carbs than canned food and is not metabolized as quickly. I only scanned the Health post, but it didn't look like anyone provided the links to information on
feline nutrition or to
Janet & Binky's lists which are charts of the carb content of most of the major brands and flavors of cat food. We consider low carb (LC) as under 10% carb content. Also, you do not need to feed your cat only twice a day. Most of us feed frequent, small meals since it puts less pressure on a healing pancreas and helps to keep BG levels more even.
I would not recommend using the litter crystals to get a glucose reading. Urine glucose is neither a reflection of current level nor is it accurate. Urine takes a while to collect and be expelled so the level you are getting is hours old. Also, unless it is past a certain concentration of glucose (i.e., above 180uL), urine glucose doesn't register. As a result, if levels are low, you will not know, which could be a problem. Urine glucose is also influenced by volume so if Jezebel is drinking a lot, you will not get a true level. Blood glucose will tell you what Jezebel's levels are minute to minute and you will definitely be able to test the range of levels. You will know if levels are low enough to be of concern.
You asked about the "Only Natural Pet Glucose Wellness." I've never seen anyone mention it here. I don't know whether any of the ingredients have been tested in cats. My reaction is that since cats are obligate carnivores, I somehow don't seen them as naturally grazing on fenugreek, olive leaf, or cinnamon.
There is a ton of information in the permanent notes at the top of the Board. It is, frankly, overwhelming. Please read the notes -- especially the information on our dosing protocol -- the
Tight Regulation Protocol. Also, visit our condos, read our SSs, ask questions, and post daily (one condo, per cat, per day).
