Is It Normal For A VERY Slow Decrease?

I understand that there are 2 Blackie's on this thread, so as to not confuse anyone, I'm going to add in brackets (Lil Mama), as that's her nickname from me.

Anyway, Blackie (Lil Mama) started on Lantus this morning after being on ProZinc for about a month with no results. Since giving her the insulin this morning, she's been steadily decreasing, albeit very slowly. (Pls see SS). Is this normal for a first time Lantus user?

If I understand it correctly (or try to understand it), Lantus is a very slow going insulin whereas ProZinc is more of a "quicker" result type of insulin.

Thank you for any advice and help with this.

Just an FYI, you're not going to have much space in your subject line if you include your nickname for Blackie! We've had a couple of Max's at the same time. Your name is linked to the first post. We'll figure it out!! Don't stress over getting it sorted out. Either that or we'll have both beans do rock, paper, scissors so we know who Blackie #1 and #2 are.

The answer is "yes" but probably for some additional reasons. Right now, a portion of the insulin that your shooting is going toward forming a depot, or what we refer to as a "shed." (See the sticky note on this topic.) What that means is that not all of the Lantus is available for Blackie to use. In addition, a Lantus curve, ideally, is flat. It's better if it's a flat green, but once Blackie is regulated you'll see flat numbers. Further, there is a trade off between potency (i.e., Lantus pulling down numbers quickly like with ProZinc) and duration and gentleness.

Right now, while the shed is forming, you may not see a great deal of action. Don't worry. This is normal. It's why we note that it takes 5 - 7 days for you to see much when you first start Lantus.

Welcome to LL! :-D and actually I think you make Blackie #3! No problems so far.

Patience is the name of the game here. Lantus like consistency, we don't adjust doses based on preshot as they do w/ ProZinc. Then we hold to allow for the shed to fill or empty as the case may be.

Spend the time reading the stickies and the links (that should keep you busy!) Having your profile available in your signature helps a lot too. We are nosy and want to know all sorts of stuff, it saves asking the same questions over and over again.
