introducing Mr. Midnight, Lantus to prozinc

Hi James. Welcome to ProZinc-land! I’m sorry to hear that Mr Midnight is having a hard time, but we will do our best to help out as he begins ProZinc.

You mention that his numbers are crazy high, so it sounds like you may be home testing? Do you keep a record? We are very data-driven around here, and so you will see that we all track our cats’ blood sugar levels and post them in a shared Google doc in our signature blocks so that everyone can see them. It really helps us with being able to make suggestions.

Here are instructions for setting up a spreadsheet. (It’s actually very easy. Just follow the steps!)

We started at 4 units twice daily and I’m actually super excited after 6 days to report that his numbers are improving greatly on the Prozinc! The lowest numbers I’ve seen in him with any insulin! His lowest we tested Saturday was 270! He was typically in the high 400’s! That was with 7 units twice daily of lantus! His diet of fancy feast is the same so I’m hoping after a lot of trial and error that we have found what my sweet boy needs to be healthy! We will be doing a curve after his 10 day mark to see what he’s regulated too!
Thank you for the instructions on the spreadsheet! Currently we have a white board where we track his time of feedings and shots, and what his bgl is for that day or every other day. But a spreadsheet will probably be better!
 
Hi James. Yes, I think once you get using the spreadsheet, you will love it. We like data here, and are very interested in “trends,” so getting the spreadsheet up will make it possible for us to check in and see at a glance (it’s color coded!) how Mr M is doing and make suggestions accordingly.

I’m glad to see that he seems to be responding to the ProZinc! While his numbers are higher than we would like, it must be such a relief to see them coming down so much from where they have been!
 
Hello, I’ve been tracking midnights data in my phone since he started Prozinc, could someone kind of explain the spreadsheet to me? I’m just not sure how to enter my information and what amps and such mean?
 
Hi James-

AMPS means AM Pre-Shot, PMPS means PM Pre-Shot. The "U" is for units - how much insulin you injected. The +1, +2, +3, etc. is for how many hours since you gave the injection. We tell time that way since we are all in different time zones. If you tell me it's 4:30, I have no idea what that means since I don't know your shot time or your time zone, but if you tell me it's +3, then I understand how to interpret the numbers you're getting without you having to constantly remind us of those other details, and then trusting in my poor math skills ;).

As for the dates, if you type in the first date you want and hit enter. Then click on the cell and you'll see a little dot in the bottom right corner of the cell. Hover your cursor over the bottom right corner of that cell, the cursor will turn into a plus. Then you can drag down and it will auto fill the rest of the dates for you. Much easier than typing them all in :).

I've finally completed putting all the data for the past month on prozinc into my spreadsheet and attached it to my signature! If anyone would like to check it out and give any feedback that'd be great! Thank y'all!

You even got the full day curve in there WOW :woot: I hope Midnight continues to get better and better!

Thank you! It’s been such a long battle, a year now, to get this boy testing lower. He was unfortunately required to be on the wrong type of insulin at high doses for a while because I couldn’t afford the insulin he needed until recently receiving help from an awesome organization! What would anyone say is the best numbers I should be seeing in him? He is 16.5 lbs, down from 27 lbs when diagnosed. He only eats fancy feast classic and fresh pet as a snack during the day.
