I'm Devistated

My cat Bally passed away this morning. I enjoyed 13 happy years with him and I will miss him very much!!! He is in a better place and isn't suffering anymore.

I can't help but feel responsible somehow for not doing enough.

Thanks for your support yesterday. You all helped me more then the vet did. I feel like they should have kept him overnight or at least have told me that he absolutely needed the glucometer because he was not eating. I would have just bought it there even though I couldn't afford it and let the check bounce. I am not sure if he was hypo or not. There may have been something else wrong as well, I don't know.

My suggestion to you all is to stress to anyone else who is just going to start insulin that they absolutely need a glucometer that day, especially if the cat is not eating and to test it often the first few days until the BG is stable.

I didn't think my time here with you would be so short.

I wish you all the best with your cats.

Thank you all again.
Ed

I am so sorry for your loss, take comfort in the loving memories of you dear Bally and know that he is in a much better place now free from pain and illness. Playing will all our other GAs at the rainbow bridge.

Please don't blame yourself it sounds like you tried your hardest to help your dear boy.

Fly free sweet Bally and land softly in your daddy's heart until you meet again.

Oh Ed, I am so very sorry. Please don't for a second blame yourself. You went to the vet where you should have gotten the information you needed. Because you didn't, you started searching. That was the valuable caring thing to do for Bally and you are among the few who do it. And you got busy, trying to figure how you could best help him.

Obviously, you cared and loved him for many years and that is the very best gift we can give our kitties.

Sue

Oh my goodness how very sad. My heart just goes out to you. May God comfort you at this sad time. Fly free little Bally, back to your daddys heart forever.

I'm so sorry Ed. It's terrible you found us too late. I do know how you feel. Before I found Mugsy I had a dog and a cat. We got both as babies and had the dog for 16 years. The cat was devoted to her and when the dog passed away it was only two months before the cat did too - she was 10 years old. It left a huge hole in my heart as Bally's loss no doubt does in yours. Just know Bally no longer will suffer and love lives on.

(((Ed))) I'm so sorry it was Bally's time. Lots of times when cats make it here to the board, there's already so much going on with them besides diabetes. Fly free Bally!

(((HUGS))) & tears,
-Steph

I'm so sorry that Bally had to leave - it's heartbreaking to do all we know to do and still they must go at some point and we're never ready to say goodbye. Perhaps there was something else going on that no one was aware of. You did all you could and that's all any of us can ever do.

Keep those wonderful memories and that love you shared with your sweet Bally in your heart and hopefully they will help to ease your grief and comfort you. They are so much a vital part of our lives.

Emmy & Dude (& Mittsi too)

(((Ed))) & (((Bally))).

Keeping you and your kitty in my thoughts today Ed, you've got my condolences and as others have said, don't blame yourself, you did all you could.

Thank you for all the kind words everyone. I'm getting by, I just need to try to get sleep.

It has helped me a great deal today to know that so many people I didn't even know 3 days ago care.

God Bless,
Ed

Ed, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is when we try to save them and we cannot. Despite beating Diabeties, regretfully my Yittle passed over earlier this year due to cancer. Because he was diabetic we weren't able to explore options we would have liked to explore to treat his cancer, finances also were a consideration. Not many of us here have $1000 for exploritory surgery or stuff like that. But we do our best, and the mere fact that you even made it here and tried means everything. You did all you could, and you were a good owner and companion. Trust that your beloved Bally knows this, and knows how much you loved them. No matter how long we have them, its never long enough. But someday we'll be reunited and have the rest of eternity together.

ed, i just saw your posts and wanted to say how sorry i am to read about bally's passing.
fly free and land softly, bally.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your painful loss is also a gift to you to carry to others in your loved one's name- the knowledge you have gained can be passed on to save other's loved ones. you are part of a large chain that keeps growing. You did what most people do-trust your vet- now you know there is more that can be added- do not blame yourself. you did the best you could, you gave all your love and what more can you give? Your loved one is running around with all the others-happy and knowing you will make it through until you meet again.

There are many cat lovers here that care and care about you and what you are going through. Please post how you are doing.

My heart goes out to you in this difficult time.
Purrs and angels sent to you.

I want to thank you all for all the kind replies! It really means a great deal to me! I talked with the vet today. I went off on her! She did not have much to say. There was no reason Bally should have died!! What hurt me more then anything was to have to witness it! It was so horrible! They should have kept him because he was not eating and his sugar was 400! In a way feel bad for telling her off, but I had to get it off my chest! They neglected my cat and he died as a result 19 hours after I thought everything was ok cuz he saw the vet!

Thank you everyone who took the time to post a reply here!
God bless.
I am trying to adopt a new kitty. She is 1 years old. Snow white. I am posting her picture. I am going to call her Snowy.

Sorry to hear the bad news. As others have said try not to blame yourself. I would stick around here as there seems to be a lot of info here about other issues as well. I hope everything works out with your new friend.

Ed I really hope you get Snowy and form a fast bond with (her?)
Please do stick around and let us know all about her.
use the diet we reccomended for bally. it will help against diabetes but is also just all around a more cat appropriate food.
You might want to introduce yourself, if your ready, in the community room. and as for being here in health...know that newbie's like to hear from peeps that they are in the right place.
I know your angry and grieving Bally, I hope that vet won't get his hands on your new snowy.
