mine look like the ones on the right... but the package says 1/2cc??? we got those from the vet. We went to shoppers drugmart one day to try to get the 1/2 unit syringes, and she showed us a package that said 1/2cc, and once again they looked like the one on the right up there in the picture. I told her i needed the 1/2 unit syringes and she said those were the ones..... What the heck is going on here? haha. i need the ones like the ones on the left in that picture.
I see what your problem is--the 1/2 cc are the larger ones and don't have half-unit markings. Those are really large and not so great to use on a small animal like a cat!
Go to your pharmacy and ask to get
30-31g, 8mm (5/16"), .3cc syringes, with half-unit markings. Make sure you say that you want the ones with the half-unit markings, because they make them in that size both with and without them. These are the same syringes used to give insulin to small children.
I'll also explain the syringe terminology for you so you have a better understanding of what those measurements mean!
30-31g--this is the gauge of the needle, which measures how thick the needle is. The higher the gauge, the thinner the needle is. Depending on the syringe manufacturer, these size syringes can be 30g or 31g--either size is fine.
8mm (5/16 inch)--this is how long the needle is.
.3cc--this is the capacity of the syringe. You have 1/2cc syringes, which means they can hold 50 units of insulin. .3cc syringes hold 30 units of insulin (there is 100 units of insulin in one cc).
Half-unit markings--like in the picture above, there is an extra set of markings on the left hand side of the line that indicate .5u increments.
