First of all I do plan to do a spread sheet, but I am not that computer literate and i find the directions baffling!

My cat Mikey started Lanuts on the 5th of August at .05 mg. He came into taking insulin with a high Fructosonine level of 500 and his BG at the vets was 299.

We started him on .05 mg and that did not seem to be doing much keeping him in the the 200 -245 range, but I was not testing before every shot. The doc suggested going up to 1 unit 2 times a day and I started on Sunday night
500 pm preshot was 301 and at 11;00 pm it was 184

Monday
6:00 am preshot BG 338, 12:noon 249 and at 700 preshot pm 201

Tuesday
6:00 am preshot 248 and at 6:30 pm 338

For some reason I could not get blood from the ear for the Tuesday pm shot and had success after try 5. Could this high 338 be because the cat might have been stressed.

I wish I could get this spread sheet going

I'm going to tag Bhooma @Bandit's Mom so she can help you set up a spreadsheet. I know it's really hard for you to navigate, but it sounds like you can really use the help. We are a very data-driven forum. We look at numbers in terms of trends and not static data over the course of a few days. What is important for us to know is how low Mikey goes on a particular dose before adjusting anything.

It's hard to know if the higher number could be from testing stress, but trust me when I say it's probably harder on you than it is on him. It took me 6 full weeks to get the testing done right, and now that it's routine it doesn't stress me or my cat anymore. It does get easier. :)
 
Welcome to the LLB forum. Which insulin is Mikey getting? What are you feeding him? What type of meter are you using? We also need a signature so you don’t get the same questions every day. Bhooma can help with that too if needed. I was not great with spreadsheets either but all you have to do is plug in some numbers and the rest is done for you.

He is in Lantus insulin, just moved up to 1unit 2x on Sunday night
It is going to be torrential rain tomorrow so I will attempt the spread sheet. I use the ReliOn meter . Sometimes I am perfect and some days I am terrible with the meter and the shot. Poor thing got jabbed 5 times and he was not happy.

Thanks, that would be great. I will examine the signature and see what to do
 
Do you give a treat after you poke? My vet taught me to test with a needle instead of a lancet and to do or freehand. I always got blood. I bought the super sharp terumo ones, 25 gauge. What gauge are your lancets? Do you warm the ear first with a warm rice sock? I never had to but many do until the ear gets used to bleeding .

Part of the problem was my meter was giving me an error message, so I had to jab again. He gets his freeze dried chicken snacks. I haven’t done the rice thing yet as his right ear gives me blood
