Not to flood the forum with my questions, but I'm curious about this..
So, as I said in my last post, Todd's kidney values have jumped up. On Friday 12/10 his BUN was 129 and Creatinine was 4.6. He received IV fluids from mid afternoon Friday until Saturday evening. Then he came home for the night, and went back to the vet Sunday for fluids from 8am until 5pm. They rechecked his values on Sunday and they were BUN 79 and Creatinine 4.2. He came home for the night and went back in today (Monday) for more fluids. He was at the vet from 8am until 7pm. They again rechecked his values and they were BUN 70 Creatinine 4.3 (up a touch from the day before). Our vet felt that the IV fluids were not doing much and this is probably where his numbers will stay. But we are going to do one more day of fluids tomorrow and then she thinks we should remove the IV. We're not sure what caused the spike in the kidney values. On October 22nd his values were BUN: 29 and Creatinine: 1.7. However, off and on since September, his kidney values would spike a bit ( BUN average 70 and Creatinine would average 2 to 2.9) and then with fluids for a day or two, they would go back to normal. This time, they aren't. So it was quite a jump in a short period of time. Between October and mid last week, he was doing pretty well, although he got a yeast infection in his ears, but was treated for that.
He is also having a spike with his BG, with what I feel is neuropathy, but our vet thinks is just weakness from being ill. On Friday 12/10, his BG was so high, it went past what their meter could read. We've got it back down between 270 and 350 now. The neaurpathy seems a bit better today, and he looks a bit better today. I'm just not sure what tomorrow holds..
anyway.. I am curious how bad 4.2 to 4.3 Creatinine really is. Is there anything I can/should be doing for him, aside from Sub-Q at home? Is there ever a chance that it will go down a bit? It seems like such a fast jump from October. Should he be receiving more days of fluids than what he has already?
For the BG and neuropathy, I am going to do a curve on him at the end of this week and will talk with the vet about it. She feels he might need more than 1.5 units of Lantus twice a day as well. I also ordered ilifelink's Zobaline for the neuropathy. Though our vet has never heard of using it for Neuropathy, so she is a bit skeptical, I think it is worth a shot. It'll be here tomorrow.
Anyway... any thoughts??
