Well its two weeks since Milo passed and we are doing better. We still have times where it is hard to believe he is gone.
Last Friday my vet called, he was away at a conference in Denver but he got autopsy results and wanted to relay them to me. He had asked if I would give approval for one since he couldn't understand what had happened to our sweet Milo. It turns out Milo had a large tumor on his pituitary gland that was putting pressure on the brain stem (he said unless there was an MRI or Milo was displaying other symptoms it wouldn't have been found). Also there was something with clots in the kidneys. The vet feels this is why we were having such a hard time trying to regulate Milo.
We took Allie to the vet on Monday for her first physical. My vet asked if I wanted the results or to discuss them, but I declined. I just know my baby was sick and hurting. He is free from pain now.
Allie is a fun kitty. She has so many of Milo's traits it is scary. She likes his favorite spots to sleep, sits on the couch in his spot between us, stays awake most of the day like he would, etc. She has decided sleeping with hubby and I is a good thing. Like him she goes to bed when we go to bed and stays until the alarm goes off. She will come snuggle with me after everyone is at work and school. She is a very loud and vocal kitty. She loves her wet food and slides across the kitchen floor to get.

I hope all your sweet sugar kitties are doing well. Once again thank you all for the support over the past few months trying to get Milo back on track with his numbers and for being so kind when he passed.
Meredith and Allie

It's so nice to hear you're doing well. Milo's spirit is no doubt smiling at y'all and whispering cat messages to Abby, letting her know just what to do!
:cat:

Hi Meredith, tears still come to my eyes when I think about you and Sweet Milo! I am so happy to hear you are finding some solace with Allie. I know from experience that our former fur babies will never leave our hearts, but there is always room for another.

I'm glad you have the reassurance that there was nothing that you did or the vet did that contributed to losing Milo. I know I would have been second guessing everything and everyone.

I'm also happy that Allie is helping to fill up the empty place in your heart. It sounds like she brings lots of smiles!

Hi Meredith, I have no doubt precious Milo is watching over you and purring his little heart out that you have given a loving home to a sister kitty. You'll miss him forever, but in spite of your pain, you know that he is no longer suffering.

Hugs,
Lori

Hi Meredith,
Allie sounds like a wonderful kitty I know Milo is keeping watch over you all. It's good that you have the reassurance that Milo's passing was not because of the anesthesia or the dental procedure, but was an underlying and unsuspected condition.
Keep on enjoying that new kitty. It's neat that she has so many of Milo's traits.
Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

(((((Meredith & Allie))))) Thanks for the update, I bet it must still seem surreal with all you have had to go through. I feel the same as others, that not knowing what happened would have driven me crazy, I'm hoping this helped to put some closure on the matter and some added peace of mind...Please give Allie plenty of hugs and scritches from me.

{{{Meredith}}} - I am glad to hear you have a sense of closure now. You did everything you could for Milo.:bighug::bighug: The tumor sounds like acromegaly, which Neko has - a benign tumor on the pituitary. It's a lot more common in diabetic cats than previously thought but often there are few external clues. And most vets haven't been trained to look for it either.

Give Allie some hugs and cuddles for me. It sounds like Milo is coaching her in the best ways to help ease that hole in your heart.

Thank you for letting us know.

I'm glad your new kitty is bring you happiness; they are so good at doing that.

At least now you have answers. It doesn't make it any less difficult. I'm glad you have Allie to give you love and help you smile again. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I've been thinking about you and am so happy you stopped in to let us know what was going on. You did everything you could do - I'm glad it wasn't a vet error.

:bighug::bighug::bighug:

extra pats to little Allie. She sounds like a heart-warmer.

Thank you for sharing the info on Milo with us. I'm glad that you have the comfort of knowing why he passed and that it wasn't any mistake you or the vet made. I am also happy that now we all know there was an underlying condition, and that we should be aware of that possibility in our own kitties, but not to be terrified of having them put under because of what happened to Milo.

15 years ago, our dear civvie, Max, went to the vet to have an MRI done to determine why his back legs seemed to be giving him pain. We took him in the night before so the test could be done first thing in the morning. The next morning the vet called to say Max, who was only 11 and other wise healthy, had crossed in his sleep! We were all shocked, and the vet asked to do a necropsy because she was very upset that it had happened under her care. It turned out that he had pancreatic cancer, but we had never seen any symptoms, other than the pain that we thought was in his back legs! So you see, it can and does happen more often than you might think.

I am happy to hear that the little furry baby Milo sent to help heal your heart is doing such a good job. I'm sure he's very proud of himself, watching you all from the bridge.
