Hi from a newbie, and a Brooklyn veterinarian question

Hi, my name is George, and my 15 year old boy Zooey was just diagnosed with feline diabetes. I like my vet very much, but I feel they might not be the most knowledgable resource for this affliction. I live in Brookyn, NY, and was wondering if anyone had a vet recommendation in the area that they recommend. Thanks in advance!

Hi! Welcome to the forum. I can't speak about Brooklyn specifically (other side of the state, hellooooo) but in general, vets are not well informed on FD. You're much better off looking at this forum for guidance and asking any questions you have (no matter how dumb you think they are).

I would recommend starting here if you haven't gotten supplies yet (and even if you have to make sure you didn't miss anything). Some basic questions to get started: what kind of food is Zooey eating? What kind of insulin did the vet prescribe? What dose?

Hi, I’m also in BK and have had luck with “The Cat Practice”. It’s in the city on West 24th, but the whole thing is one vet who specializes in cats. He’s very knowledgeable and the Practice’s house cat is on insulin himself.

He generally advocates for a looser regiment than is advocated for on here, but was supportive when I wanted to follow a more strict one. He’s very comfortable and practical when it come to treating feline diabetes and I was so happy I switched from Bond to him.

I’ve also heard good stuff about the Clinton Hill Animal Clinic near Ft Greene Park. Someone on the facebook group mentioned it to me as a supportive and responsive family run vet.

Hope you find someone who works well for you and your little one!

FYI, as others here have mentioned, finding a vet that truly understands FD can be a challenge. What I've found that has worked well is a vet who is open to learning with me and accepting of the advice I receive here on the forum. Good luck!
