My cat has been on insulin for a little over a month. Was on prozinc. Switched vets and vet put him on Lantus per my request about 2-3 days ago
My cats readings had been very high before switching to Lantus (higher than yesterday's reading) which was 439. The day before that was 314 which was great
I took three readings Tonite and it was the lowest I've seen at 197-176-191 I'm using the platinum relion glucometer. I injected his usual 1 unit dose. Have I screwed up? Will potentially have hypogylcemia? I gave it 25 minutes ago

Sounds like the insulin is working as intended. You won't be looking at hypoglycemia until it goes much lower than that. (Like under 50). Take some deep breaths. You got this!

Hi Cheryl! What was your cat's blood glucose reading when you gave him/her his shot tonight?

Hi Cheryl. We need you to set up a signature and spreadsheet. The information on how to do this is in the link below,

Sticky - New? How You Can Help Us Help You!

I will tag Bhooma who can help with the spreadsheet. @Bandit's Mom.

In the meantime you can give insulin when the bg is 200 or more. There’s up to 20% variance allowed with meters so the three tests were all within the same range. Ounare seeing good beginning bg on lantus.

I see Mary linked your previous post which you want to do every time you start a new post. We do that for continuity.

Lantus generally kicks in about two hours after injecting. If you can get a test then you will get an idea as to whether you will have an active cycle where you might need to test more often. Can you get another test then? Post the results. When you need help, add a question mark prefix to your subject.

Hi Cheryl,

Don’t worry.. we all do it! We see what we think is a low number and panic. Quite soon we become used to “shooting” at “low” numbers without a second thought.
We once didn’t give Arya her shot when she was at 169 because we were new and we panicked.
This forum saved her life. I’m not exaggerating. I was happy to be “told off” (in the best possible way) for my newbie mistakes and the guidance we received got Arya into remission in 6wks!!
I actually went into the vet’s armed with studies and information and told her that she was giving wrong diabetic cat advice for cats on Lantus (she was advising 0.75 per kilo instead of starting at 0.25)
Please shout out and tag the members that you’ve got the links for.
Best of luck…

Thanks, I' ve posted on here before every one is so helpful. I haven't gotten it down yet as far as posting etc. I appreciate you helping me. I'd like to get another glucose but I can guarantee it, unless he's eating I'm not getting it. Lol. I'm going to watch him closely. If it comes to that I'll just have to
My mind is warped right now. My African grey got out my screened patio a couple days ago so Im trying to find him. I'll get to the spreadsheets when I have time for sure. Thank again.

I need to figure out how to post on here and tag people. I don't know how. I'm sure I'll figure it out. 🤗
