Help please should I shoot or give reduced dose?

She’s going to hate me!

Nahhh….she won't. Everybody feels like that and it doesn't help to have a lot of vets saying you shouldn't home test because you'll ruin your relationship with your cat.

Soon, you're going to find that your relationship with your sugarcat is a lot more special than you can even imagine right now.

We all think we love all our cats as much as they can be loved....then you learn a whole new meaning of the word "love" when you have a sugarcat.

Of course the sad part is that when they do leave us, the pain is that much worse.

I can see the BGs in your Ss from yesterday!

The TR is more successful because it gives you the opportunity to get the numbers down more quickly But both methods work.
You would not be able to do TR without home testing of some sort and even SLGS would be difficult because you need to test before every shot to see it is safe to give the dose and you need a curve each 7 days.
If I were you I would think again about home testing. I know it’s scary.....everyone is stressed and anxious in the beginning but it honestly gets much easier and we can help you....in the meantime you have the Libre. Is there any food she really loves that you could use to tempt her with as you test? I used to give Sheba a small saucer of chicken broth I used to make while I tested. She was food motivated which helped.

Hi Bron,
I was hoping you might be able to give me a bit of guidance... I had decided to follow the TR methodology to try and get Nell’s numbers down - if you have a look a her SS you’ll see her numbers are pretty high during the day and drop lower overnight. but given an overnight low of 3.7 I’m wondering what the best way forward is.

With regards to drawing up 1U of insulin, should the top of the black part of the plunger draw down to the underside of the 1U line or the top of the 1U line?

most cats go lower at night so that's not terribly unusual.

Today she's bouncing from the low last night. Bounces happen when 1. they drop too low, 2. they drop too fast, 3. they drop into numbers their body isn't used to anymore (or any combo of all 3)

It can take up to 6 cycles for the bounce to clear so hang on and see where she's at as this one clears.

Just an FYI...since the Libre is new to the scene when it comes to cats, we really have no guidance on "how low is too low". Using a human meter, we know on TR to reduce the dose if they drop below 50 and if using a pet meter we reduce if they drop below 68, but there's just no way to know how to interpret it with the CGM.

It looks like she’s been “bouncing“ everyday... I just wasn’t sure whether to hold the same dose or reduce it. Her numbers have certainly been very up and down and quite dramatic at night. Will they stabilise at any point? It is awful when the numbers are high and it is just terrifying when they drop so dramatically...

It's still very early in your treatment journey to expect her to stop bouncing soon. Usually, the more often you can get them into normal numbers, the sooner their liver learns that it's OK to be there and stops releasing all those sugars and hormones but some cats have bounced all the way to OTJ.

Treating feline diabetes will teach you one thing if it doesn't teach you anything else....patience!

Thanks Chris. She’s due for her shot in an hour and she is at about 360 at the moment so I guess I’d better just go ahead on the same dose and keep an eye on her tonight - I’d better get the matchsticks out again!

A housekeeping note....

On this board, we strongly encourage members to post a new thread (aka "condo") on a new day. Basically, one condo per cat per day. It prevents a thread from becoming too long. This thread has over 58 posts. If you needed help emergently, we would need to read the entire thread which would take what could be an. unnecessary amount of time.

We also have a format for subject lines which can help us to identify if there's a potential emergency:
Date ---- Cat's name ---- AMPS-#, +time-#, etc.
If you have a question, you can add it to the subject line.

Thank you for the housekeeping note Sienne. Sorry - it’s still all so new and worrisome - I’ll hopefully get the hang of it all!
