Hi,

Molly and Meatball need to hear from folks on Levemir. Meatball is only 1 1/2 years old and is ketone prone. He's been running in the 400 and 500s for way too long now. He was on 10 units twice a day when Molly came to the board. She was advised to start over and ketones developed. She's up to 3.5 units and there's no difference in Meatball's numbers between 1 unit, 3 units, and 10 units. I've suggested to her that she needs to change insulins. She and her vet want to go with Lantus, but I've very worried about ketones. I've told her that Levemir is more flexible and thus a better choice for Meatball. I also suggested that she post on health but she didn't get any responses.

Can you all please come to her PZI thread and let her know how great Lev is?

Thanks, Terri

I posted over there. Not sure I helped your cause much. I reiterated the acromegaly test because I noted some details in her original post which others seemed to have overlooked, such as a 1 1/2 yr old cat at 17 lbs and owner describing him as "big boned."
It's not reasonable for a no-steroids-given cat to develop diabetes that young without a pancreatic injury or something else going on.

I'm very concerned if they switch insulins to whichever that the ketones are going to return with a vengeance. But despite the tiffs, one of the things FDMB is good at is walking people through the early weeks, no matter what happens.

Thanks for the post Vicky. I don't have a cause other than getting Meatball some relief. Molly works a lot so we really just need to hear some ideas for what to do.

Looks like they were originally brought in but a couple high dose folks said they didn't think Meatball would be an acro possibility because of young age and since there was some action from the insulin they were considering it chronic rebound or resistance, but resistance is also present in acro.

Sarah and Cody posted about her experience and gave some good info. Hopefully, since the cost is not that much for the acro test, Molly will get that "out of the way". Sarah made a good point about large doses of lantus stinging, something I forgot about.

I hope she gets Meatball sorted out soon, poor thing.
