Help needed on dosage

Testing is supposed to be done before kitty eats, or at least while they have just started eating. If it’s much later than that I would not trust the number.

He had just started eating but I wasn’t sure if that was too late. I did not give him his shot. He is at 138 now so I assume safe to give him it? I will be home all day and can watch him. @Suzanne & Darcy

He bobbled around a bit then went into the red. I am wondering if he still will be high this morning. It’s great to hear that he’s acting so happy. This makes my day!

Well, no. I don’t think you made a mistake. You are following the protocol, which is good. I think he would do better on the MPM Protocol, but unfortunately he eats a little dry food so he can’t follow that protocol.

I did accidentally give him a high carb food instead of a medium carb the other night when he was dropping quick and I had to sleep. Would that make him high for a long time?

What percentage of carbs? If it was wet food it should wear off relatively quickly. It certainly shouldn’t last into the next cycle.

Looks like he’s broken the bounce! I see his blue PMPS! Try to get a couple tests tonight. I am glad you are off tomorrow and the next day.

This is not an unusual pattern. He is definitely responding to the insulin very well now. In the last few days, he went up from the blues and then came back down pretty quickly. It looks like he’s really reacting to those lovely greens with some very high numbers. Let’s see how quickly he clears the high numbers. It’s a pretty typical pattern. The good news is he’s earned reductions.

What happened at the vet?

Well that makes me feel better it’s normal. The very high numbers just worry me. Along with how fast he’s dropping. I took him to the vet because he kept messing with his ears. They said it could be ear mites so they gave me drops and clipped his nails.

Better yellow AMPS today. He seems to be getting back into lower numbers more quickly now and that is a sign that his body is adjusting to the lower numbers. When you say dropping fast, are you talking about two nights ago? Or where? Steep drops of about more than 100 points in an hour can set up a bounce. If this happens a lot, we can try feeding a few more carbs to slow him down in the first part of the cycle. I am not talking about high carbs, bit just 7/8/9 percent carbs perhaps.

Did they swab out his ears and look at it under a microscope? Or they just said it “could be” ear mites. What did they give you, Tresaderm (although those drops have been in short supply lately )

Just be aware that ear drops with a steroid component to them can cause elevated BG. I have seen it happen many times. Just let me know what they have you. We will just have to deal with it.
