+5 was 76, so going up...would it be helpful to feed him in a two/three hours? We could set an alarm. I just don't know how this will affect overall numbers in the coming days. If it's green at 8 am..for the AMPS today, do we shoot the 1u?? Or can we give him 12 hours or so to reset and take the 1u from there?

do you have any karo, syrup, or honey in the house?

if so, i'd drizzle some into some of his regular food and test again at +6. unless he's over 150, repeat and retest at +7.
tomorrow... i don't usually recommend this, but we need to drain johnny's shed. i'd skip the shot in the morning even if the numbers are high. have brian do a few random tests scattered throughout the day. let's see where johnny is at a couple of hours before shot time. then we;ll discuss dose.

this way you can sleep in a little bit in the morning and won't have to worry about numbers. sound like a plan?

ps to any lurkers reading this...

johnny does not have an established nadir. normally, we do not karo numbers this high, but it's late. janice has to work tomorrow and johnny's numbers *could* bobble up and down for a bit. all we want to do is keep the numbers up and then skip tomorrow morning's shot to drain the *shed* a little more.

it's amazing what a change to an all wet low carb diet can do...

edited to add: janice, i'm going to remove the 911 icon now since you have things under control.

Sounds good, Jill. And thanks so much for your help tonight!

We gave Johnny Cat a little bit of straight tuna with 1/8 tsp of honey drizzled over top. He ate it up faster than anything. Tuna is his thang. We'll test again at +6. I have no problem calling in to work for the a.m. (but getting up to test/post results at AMPS). It seems he just has excess insulin in his system, even with the dose-down. I'd almost feel better if we skipped tomorrow a.m. no matter the number and start fresh at 1u tomorrow evening. I know though that I don't entirely grasp what I'm talking about. Is there a magic "below" number that would make you skip tomorrow if you were here? (wish you were!!)

p.s. Thanks for removing the 911 icon. I just thought to do it and it was done. Kitty paw-bumps (like human fist-bumps) to you!

honestly, i would just skip tomorrow morning's shot no matter what the number.... and that may be easier said than done because there's a real good chance the number you'll see in the morning will be ugly (high). however, don't worry about it. 12 hours without insulin will give the shed a chance to drain and it is not going to matter in the long run. pretend it was a fur shot. lol!

let's start from square one tomorrow at PMPS. let's see what he does tomorrow.

there's an outside chance we may even want to re-think starting at 1u bid, but i'm getting ahead of myself. i'll check in on you tomorrow. i'll also send a shout out to some of our more experienced dosing persons to keep an eye on johnny's spreadsheet and weigh in with their thoughts on dosing.

+6 was 139. We're going to head to bed for 6 hours or so and retest and post. So grateful for your help tonight. And everyone's input today. Where's the "you rock" smilie?!

ok, good job tonight! leave out some food for johnny to nibble on before you go to bed, k?
talk to you tomorrow. have to feed alex. she just dropped to 42! lol!
goodnight...

Re: 5/24 Johnny - Update: +6 is 35...Nervous...?s inside

He has access to hp/lc dry food, but is now eating 80-90% wet food.
Someone has probably already told you this, but better safe than sorry. Before you increase his dosage above 1u, be sure to get him entirely off dry food (no access to it at all) long enough to see how he will respond. The switch to wet food is often enough to control diabetes all by itself! You don't want to increase the insulin dose until you know exactly how much difference the 100%-wet diet will make.

Blessings!
