Lantus is not an in and out of the system in 12 hours insulin. Maybe some insulins are but not Lantus. That is one reason we never look at just one cycle when we are trying to study a cat. Understanding the overlap of Lantus is very important in understanding how Lantus works.
I think you guys are going to be AOK as long as you get test strips and HC food. I do agree that you need to have a backup plan for getting to the ER if needed.

I use Friskies Chicken and Tuna dinner with Gravy 19% but depending on where you are going for food, that might not be available. Pick up quite a few cans of high carb gravy food...Fancy Feast has a Gravy Lovers ...it will not go to waste if you don't use it today...9 Lives Shredded w/ Real Chicken in Gravy is high carb also....

just want to add that in a potential overdose situation lantus' duration can be extended. so you may need to test past +12 and test more carefully even after the next shot because of overlap.
sometimes, tho, an overdose situation becomes a non-event. i gave cleo a double dose once and panicked but her numbers went high because her system fought it off. some other cats' numbers have dropped very low and they had a big fight getting them back up with food.
so test and check, and don't drop your guard, but this can turn out okay.
add a few more tests even after the next dose of lantus, okay?
you probably are not going to give the next shot tonight, but ask others for advice on this when shot time comes, okay?

Gave her some (higher than usual) carb food before I left for the store (FFeast roasted chix)
fed her a pouch of Special Kitty chix & gravy food - she LOVES the gravy but has never been fond of the actual food (but licks the food pcs dry!) @ 7:29pm
Vet office also has called 3 times to check up on her - they are nice people

Booga-Boo is really good when it comes to her BG levels - if she feels even a little low, or not herself she lets me know! And not just a "hey, im not feeling right mama bean" I get an entire STORY "Once upon a time..." She wont even let you get a word in sometimes! :lol:

We all us a Spreadsheet that we attach to our signatures. Each BG number will automatically register a color. You can click on Raja's SS in my signature. The directions are found in the Tech Support Forum:

We post a condo (thread) each day for our kitties. The header reads: Date, Kitty's Name, AMPS=______
and we update our condo with new BG numbers as we get them. We link our previous day's condo to the first post of each day so that it is easy to click and see what transpired the day before.
At the top of this page are some starred stickies with lots of important information. Please read starting here: New to the Group....
There is information there about HYPOS and there is a list of things you will need to have on hand all the time.
We would be so happy if you would join our little community and post each and every day. You are welcome to visit other condos and read what is going on with the other kitties...it's a great learning tool and the camaraderie is wonderful here. Whew! Can you hear the sighs of relief? I know this may not be over yet, but just hearing back from you and Booga-boo is a relief!
Interesting numbers for getting a double shot today. I noted what Chriscleo said about her kitty's body trying to handle the overdose by fighting it off herself. Perhaps we are seeing this with Booga-Boo.
And as Chris said, don't let down your guard. You are doing great!
I'm laughing at the gravy licking, that is just fine too. The gravy has most of the carbs and she won't get too full. My kitty would love it if I dropped some gravy in his bowl. I try not to even 'say' gravy in his presence. So I'm actually whispering here. :lol:

The Boo-Puff is doing absolutely fine! Like she neva even got the second shot! Got all the beans worried... she LOVED the attention too!! We played during the night and she was running around like a wack-o! Sneaking up on pieces of paper in her "stelth mode" & loved the crap food and extra "snackaz" (she is SO funny!)

I am gonna work on my spreadsheet - I had one up B-4 on the old board - I keep detailed records of EVERYTHING so I am a slacker when it comes to the spreadsheet because it is basicly repeating everything I already have (wish i could just scan my info! SOOO much easier - giggle) I know it is to keep everyone on the same page w/her info - I just need to get my heiney (or furry) movin...
