Hi, I just started testing at home this week and after 10 unsuccessful tries, we finally got enough blood for a test! I updated it on my spreadsheet but since this is the first time we have been able to test, there is not a lot of data yet.
I am not sure how much insulin to give tonight. This was at 5pm and 8 hours after his morning shot, and his BG is 187.
How much should I give him tonight? We usually shoot around 9 pm. We were at 6 units yesterday. I know someone recommended dropping to 3 units but I was nervous so I only dropped to 5 this morning. Thank you so much for any help / advice! The last time we went to the vet he was over 500 so I think switching the food has had a major impact.
Quick background: diagnosed in may, was on 1u as recently as 7/2, then went up weekly per vet to 2u, then 4u, now 6u. We did not go back for our last vet appt to test after they upped him to 6u and are in the process of finding a new vet (long story). During that time, he has also transitioned from dry food to a wet only diet of fancy feast classic pate. Prior to today he has only been tested at the vet, around 330 pm every time and it was always well over 300.
Any advice would be so appreciated. I have about 2.5 hours until we need to shoot tonight but I am not really confident I am going to be able to get enough blood tonight for a pre-shoot test because he is still mad about how many times I tried earlier today.
