Worried and I'm not sure what to do...I was planning on keeping her on the 1 unit for a week or two like the vet suggested, but it just seems to make her feel horrible. She seems to drop so quick, and sure enough around +4 or so I find her hot, laying on the floor to cool off.

The other problem is last night she did this weird swallowing thing...like she was having trouble swallowing something. She closed her eyes, and kept moving her head forward. Her eyes started to water, and she was drooling a little. I had a recent BG number, so knew it wasn't hypo. She seemed to recover from this last night, but just did it again today. She is eating and drinking fine. I was considering going to the ER, but don't want to overreact. (maybe it's just a hairball) Has anyone dealt with this before?

As far as dosing, I'm considering just taking her down to .5 to lessen the swings, until maybe I can get her to vet next week and try a new insulin. If anyone has any ideas on dosing, I'm open to all opinions. Thanks everyone...just getting discouraged...again.

I would not reduce the dose. The recent lows of about 150 while on 1 unit are good. I would maintain the 1 unit. If you continue to see the same response I agree with talking with the vet about another insulin.

I've been able to get ketone tests everyday, but have yet to catch her at the litter box today. I will for sure get one when I can. All other times she has been negative.

Yeah, I'm reluctant to reduce the dose...just don't want her to feel so sick. At around +3 and +4 she acts like she's been on a roller coaster. I guess a 50% drop probably feels like that.

Hi Melissa. I am still learning a lot so I cant give you dosing advice or anything like that. But wanted to share this with you:

When Jupiter first started having these blues and greens, he seemed like he was not feeling so great during these lower numbers. He would just act kind of miserable and tired. But, I think after he got familiar with these nicer numbers, he started acting like he was feeling much better. He started acting playful again too.... which I hadnt seen him playful in so so long... since he was a kitten!

Now for a little while hes been back in higher numbers, and he hasnt been playful...... and when he went low after being high for so long he acted a little miserable. I think once he gets used to it again, he will act like he is feeling better though, and hopefully the playfulness will come back.

I am not sure.... but maybe once Ebby gets familiar with the lower numbers, she may start acting like she feels much better - atleast I am sure hoping so!

I am also not sure about the weird swallowing thing... like when my cats have a hairball... they kind of make a soft coughing nose and there head does move forward... my cats eyes have never watered before though.... so I am really not sure... maybe its something you can call the vet and ask about if you are worried about it

That's helpful to know Jaime. Thanks for sharing. Yeah, you would expect them to feel great in the low numbers, but sometimes Ebby seems happier when she is 400 and higher. She was acting like a kitten just a couple days ago, so it's really sad to see her swing so far down again.

Yeah, I guess it could be nausea. I hadn't thought of that. She really does seem to feel horrible during her low points of the day, then at night when she's at 400+ she's jumping on the cabinets and playing.

I'll try the vaseline. She did have a hairball a couple days ago, but maybe there is more. It is that time of year.
