It’s been a very long time since I was last here. Blitzen continues to be in remission and for that I’m blessed and thankful.
I took him for his dental and we learned he is in the very early stage of kidney disease . He did need the cleaning and he had 7 teeth extracted . He is home and resting comfortably. The gave him fluids during the procedure and then subcutaneous fluids before discharge, I will bring him again tomorrow morning for one more round of fluids. The concern is that the anesthesia is hard on the kidneys so hopefully all the hydration will prevent any further damage.
So my question is feeding him to help the kidneys but not raising his BS. He eats only FF pate and for years he has eaten the Young Again Zero Carb as he needs his kibble to but had to go off it a couple of months ago because it gave him diarrhea.I’m thinking all that protein and his age it just didn’t mix anymore. Anyway now I would never give him that much protein with the kidney issue.
What’s the happy medium here? How do I keep thing low carb enough but enough carbs to not raise BS ?
If anyone has any experience with this please chime in.
thanks!
