Hello again from Amanda and Sid

Hi everyone! My name is Amanda and I first got acquainted with the FDMB back in 2003 when my cat Sid was first diagnosed ( he was 6 at the time) . I spent a lot of time on the boards and got a lot of wonderful support. Sid went into remission in 2006 and we moved from San Diego to Texas where I still reside, happily married, with my fuzzy boy still by my side!My life has been tremendously busy so I regret not staying in touch constantly over the years. Every now and again he has had to get back on insulin for short periods of time ( mischievously getting into the other animals' food being the reason); usually a week at most. He was using the old PZI that is no longer available. But every time I think to myself " No! It's happening again!" and I freak out and I cry and I lurk on the boards for some comfort, but then he's fine again. That hasn't happened in a while. A couple of weeks ago though he wasn't feeling well and somehow I knew that this time was different. I hoped he would only need to be on insulin for another week or so, but my veterinarian is estimating a month or more before he goes into remission again. But of course now I have started on ProZinc, since my hoarded bottle of PZI is no longer useable. I was apprehensive at first, but what choice did I have? So far it has been two weeks and we are working hard to get regulated. Obviously I came here first to see what everyone's opinions were on this new insulin, and I will continue to check those boards when I have time, and hopefully share some insight of my own into how it's working. Which is why I've " come out of the woodwork" so to speak. With my busy schedule I am literally away from home exactly 12 hours out of the day, DH is home to check on Sid until he leaves for work, but I'm hoping to get him to test him too. He knows how and has done it before, but with his schedule getting him to remember will be the tricky part. LOL At any rate I hope to have his numbers up soon in the hopes that they may help. Also if you have any questions about my experiences with Sid ( he's 13 now BTW! Yay!) you can get in touch with us at SidandMandy1331@gmail.com. I thank everyone here that has been a positive force for my life; you probably didn't even know it. But no matter how life changes I know people like me that have come and gone, (and come back again, and gone again etc) are always and forever changed by this community, and so I just wanted to say that I am grateful. :)

Diagnosed in 2003 to 2012 Sid is definitely a long timer! :-) I don't use your insulin so can not offer any input on the insulin per se, but perhaps if you set up a spread sheet and go to the Pro Zinc insulin group help forum, you'll find others that do use your insulin.

Hi Amanda,
Sorry you had to come back, but glad that you did. There are a lot of Prozinc users that post daily in PZI. It seems to be becoming more popular with vets, because we've had a dozen or more new kitties and beans show up in the past couple of months. I used compounded PZI on my cat, Bob, last year and it is still available by mail with a vet prescription. But Prozinc actually seems to have a longer duration (10-14 hours) than the PZI did for me. Please drop in to PZI and I'm sure lots of the "regulars" will be happy to meet, greet and help you out.
I understand completely what you said about being always and forever changed by this community. I sure have been...

Carl

Took a quick look at Sid's SS. Looks to me like the reds you have seen at the PMPS's started as a bounce from the night he gave you greens. Then you got the expected higher PMPS numbers the two days you skipped the AM shot. So it looks like the 1.0 was working pretty well. Although you did get a couple of good cycles on the 1.2.
Then I see today's cycle and I have no clue what that's all about! A teenie dose and then what went on???? Like your note says, maybe a furshot? Any chance he got into some contraband food today?

Thanks Ann and Carl for reading our story and for your replies. And thanks Carl for looking at Sid's chart. I thought the 1.00 was doing alright as well, he's holding pretty steady this weekend and I think I will give it some more time before I think about any drastic dose changes. I read already in the PZI forum that it can take 45 days or so to really acclimate to the insulin, and the nadir can really bounce around until then. Scary! You also make a great point about the time. Possibly I am getting an overlap since I am kind of doing more of a 12/13 with my schedule how it is, and the duration may be longer than I think. I'll definitely be taking your advice and keeping up on the PZI forums. Thank you both so much, You are the reason why I love it here!

HI Amanda, sorry you had to come here again but great that Sid has been mostly OTJ. I'm a newbie but my the first three weeks on Lantus my cat's numbers were all over the place - she didn't settle in to regular numbers until the start of the 4th week. So it also could be that way with Sid too. Hope he settles in quickly and you get great numbers from him. Jan
