Amanda Milam & Sid Vicious
New Member
Hi everyone! My name is Amanda and I first got acquainted with the FDMB back in 2003 when my cat Sid was first diagnosed ( he was 6 at the time) . I spent a lot of time on the boards and got a lot of wonderful support. Sid went into remission in 2006 and we moved from San Diego to Texas where I still reside, happily married, with my fuzzy boy still by my side!My life has been tremendously busy so I regret not staying in touch constantly over the years. Every now and again he has had to get back on insulin for short periods of time ( mischievously getting into the other animals' food being the reason); usually a week at most. He was using the old PZI that is no longer available. But every time I think to myself " No! It's happening again!" and I freak out and I cry and I lurk on the boards for some comfort, but then he's fine again. That hasn't happened in a while. A couple of weeks ago though he wasn't feeling well and somehow I knew that this time was different. I hoped he would only need to be on insulin for another week or so, but my veterinarian is estimating a month or more before he goes into remission again. But of course now I have started on ProZinc, since my hoarded bottle of PZI is no longer useable. I was apprehensive at first, but what choice did I have? So far it has been two weeks and we are working hard to get regulated. Obviously I came here first to see what everyone's opinions were on this new insulin, and I will continue to check those boards when I have time, and hopefully share some insight of my own into how it's working. Which is why I've " come out of the woodwork" so to speak. With my busy schedule I am literally away from home exactly 12 hours out of the day, DH is home to check on Sid until he leaves for work, but I'm hoping to get him to test him too. He knows how and has done it before, but with his schedule getting him to remember will be the tricky part. LOL At any rate I hope to have his numbers up soon in the hopes that they may help. Also if you have any questions about my experiences with Sid ( he's 13 now BTW! Yay!) you can get in touch with us at SidandMandy1331@gmail.com. I thank everyone here that has been a positive force for my life; you probably didn't even know it. But no matter how life changes I know people like me that have come and gone, (and come back again, and gone again etc) are always and forever changed by this community, and so I just wanted to say that I am grateful.
