List of low catb treats: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9172

Some of the treats listed can be found at Petco. There's one that can be found at Wal Mart but I can't remember the name of it but look for100% freeze dried meat. PetSmart also sells goodl ow carb treats. Small non-chain and specialty pet stores/boutiques usually have a better selection of freeze dried treats and other healthy treats.

the best would be the freeze dried chicken. I don't get the tiny packs in the cat sections; I go right to the dog section as the bags and pieces are bigger plus you are not charged an arm and a leg.
there are some soft pellet type treats at Petsmart, but you have to read the ingredients of the treat.... look for sugars, glucose sucrose, maple syrup, or any kind of sweetener. Oddly, there is one kind of treat that has no sugar in only one of the flavors.
just like the pill pockets you can get, only the duck and pea has no sweetener in it.
No hard crunchy treats.

OnlyNaturalPet.com's Poultry Crispies are hard and crunchy like dry food but are low carb with just chicken or turkey as the ingredient  Those are the only low carb hard crunchy treats I would feed to a diabetic.

I found Purebites 100% chicken. I gave him one to try and he practically took my fingers off. Fingers crossed I can do the pokes tomorrow.

PetCo also carries a brand called "Thrill". They come in skinny cardboard tubes. Ruby loves the whitefish and chicken.
The liver PureBites sometimes, but mostly the other two.

We did see those too. So relieved there are choices. However, we are working with a vet that said absolutely no treats. I have a feeling we will be looking for a new vet soon. I've delicately expressed concern with him a few times now. I can hear the frustration in his voice. First he wanted to start Charley at 3 units twice a day. We (DH and I) expressed concern that it just seemed so high as a first dose because we were also changing him to an all wet food low carb diet. That started disagreement #2 - vet wanted dry m/d. Disagreement #3 was wanting to home test. Although he quickly changed his mind if we were willing to purchase the meter, lancets, strips there for $350...um, no. #4 was the treats. He wants Charley off the insulin a full 7-10 days. Now that I have my testing supplies, my first reading was 291, second 301 - are we causing a further problem by stopping the insulin cold turkey when there is obviously a need? It's hard to change to another vet when this one is just so close(2 miles from my house), and we ADORE the assistants.

My 2 cents.

Stopping the insulin with still high numbers, could be asking for troubles as getting ketoacidosis (DKA, diabetes ketoacidosis).

Simba had very high numbers and developed both severe pancreatitis and semi-severe DKA at the same time. He spent 2 weeks in intensive care at hospital and they said the prognosis wasn't good that he survived, but my little guy turned around after a week, and it was a very happy renuinon when he came home, but it also costed me $$$$ dollars to get him back home alive.

The longest I've ever had him off insulin for a non-insulin curve has been 3 days. With the hospitals advice, we needed to check something then. Apart from that he has always had his daily insulin, and so far no new DKA again (knock on wood).

Now I'm scared. Vet isn't open until Monday. Financially we are already tapped, we've spent over almost a grand in the last two weeks and it is a hardship as my husband and I are teachers. Our vet is charging us $190 every week just to check his bg. I know, ridiculous.

No don't be scared! DKA doesn't happen in one day, it takes high numbers for a longer time and builds itself up. I'll see if I can find the formula for when DKA happens, for you.

Do you got your hometesting kits now? Also the pee Ketostix to measure the a-ketones?

I'm confused. Why does your vet want to stop insulin? That doesn't make sense.
My 2 cents to you is to trust your gut about this vet. He's a DOPE. You know better than him.
It sounds like you have your testing supplies and your insulin. Why do you need to do what the vet says? You can do what you want - it's YOUR cat!!!! All of his suggestions have been bad.
Why not feed low carb food, test at home and give your insulin while carefully monitoring him?
What kind of insulin do you use? What dose?
Can you set up a spreadsheet? If people can see your data it will be easier for you to get help.
