Hi,

Jake has been on Prozinc for 2 1/2 weeks. Started on a Wednesday and he didn't use the box AT ALL until Friday for any reason. Long story short, he rarely pee's or poop's. I mean RARELY. He's eating and although he isn't drinking a lot, he is drinking. My vet didn't have a concrete answer for me other than his body needs to adjust. I get that but, for a cat that pooped daily (sometimes 2x) to go MAYBE every 2 days and to pee once every other day just doesn't seem normal to me.

Thanks,

Lexi

It's possible there could be a blockage of some kind. Cats should do pee daily, maybe not poop daily, but certainly pee.

Are you feeding wet food? And if you are, are you adding extra water into the food? This will help ensure he's getting enough water in his system.

did the vet do a thorough exam? I think you may want to take him back and get him examined and tested for possible blockages.

Or is it possible that he is going, just not in the LB?

Not a vet, but have a couple questions. Have you changed his diet to wet lo carb food? Sometimes that can mean a real reduction in poops. It can also mean a reduction in water intake as the food has more moisture than dry. And the insulin can certainly mean less peeing than an untreated diabetic.

Is there any chance he is peeing at a spot other than his litter box? Sometimes the diabetes means they can't get to the box every time and they get used to another spot and then continue to use it.

If you haven't changed his food and are still feeding dry and he is not going somewhere else, I am at a loss and I would be concerned. Others may have more suggestions for you.

When is the last time your baby had some blood work done? The poo reduction could be due to a diet change, but kitty should be peeing more that that. Cat urine is very concentrated and doesn't include a lot of water in it, so no peeing makes me wonder about kidney function.
