My cat Harry was diagnosed with lung cancer last week. Pretty devastating news after I lost Cleo on Oct 31. The day he was diagnosed also happened to be the 21st anniversary of my mom's death from kidney cancer.

We're going to have an abdominal ultrasound this upcoming Weds afternoon Oct. 24, and a chest CT scan and surgery scheduled for next Thursday morning, Dec 2. Right now we have 3 sets of xrays that tell us this is most likely a solitary mass, primary lung tumor (as opposed to metastasis), but our diagnostics (ultrasound/CT scan) may say more.

Just hoping for some good wishes for my little Harry, the kitty who loves to sit on the refrigerator shelf. Please no stories of kitties who died of this (just couldn't take it), but if anyone has good advice for me I'd appreciate it. We had talked about doing a scope/wash/aspiration but don't expect those would tell us not to do it so we decided to ultrasound the GI area to make sure he doesn't have other masses and to do a CT scan on the chest area right before surgery to determine the best surgical approach. If it's something other than a tumor we'd expect to remove it anyway, as it seems confined to one lobe (the left cranial lobe).

Harry's acting pretty well, maybe a little whiny and asking to be picked up more but he did lose his sister and he knows I've been very stressed out, but his blood/urine results were beautiful. The symptom that made me bring him to the specialist is a lower-pitched noise he started making (like a sleepy noise but more frequent).

The surgeon is optimistic. She said his heart looks normal, the mass looks confined to one lobe, and most of the lung cancer kitties she's operated on have lived normal lives after surgery. She's the one who removed Cleo's spleen last year, and I liked her a lot.

Anyway, healing vibes, please!

thanks, guys.
harry's abdominal ultrasound is tomorrow (wednesday) around 3pm pacific time.
would appreciate some good wishes at this time.
we're hoping that the mass is confined to the one lung lobe and is a primary lung cancer that hasn't spread. the point of the ultrasound is basically to see if there are masses elsewhere that could give us an idea whether this is a metastasis or a primary lung tumor, as well as to make sure the kidneys are okay. harry's kidneys felt small upon palpation but blood/urine test results were normal.

you know i'll be saying lots of prayers for Harry. Please give him a schmooch for me.

my only advice is........ take care of you .

will look for your update tomorrow .
