I AM PRETTY NEW TO THE DIABETIC FELINE DIAGNOSIS. RINGO STARTED ON NPH INSULIN AND WAS NOT IN GOOD CONTROL AND WAS SWITCHED TO LANTUS [HIS HUMAN DAD HAS HAD DIABETES FOR 30 YRS AND IS ON LANTUS TOO]. NUMBERS ARE MUCH BETTER AND I AM GETTING BETTER @ BLOOD TESTING FROM HIS EAR. I HAVE STUCK MYSELF WITH RINGO'S EAR STICK NEEDLE TWICE AND I SURE HOPE THAT'S NOT A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR ME. ANY COMMENTS? THANK YOU......BARB

I freehand testing Baby, but I always use a washcloth folded & placed behind her ear, that way there is "padding" for those flimsy ears LOL, lancet is sooo small, no way to go thru the washcloth - or never even thru Baby's ear for me.

I've stuck myself a bunch of times. Even got blood in my eye once when one of my cats shook her head. I've also poked myself with the needle. I'm not exactly the most graceful person.

By the way, you're doing great, but I might suggest that you don't use all caps on your next post. On a message board we use CAPS to make a point. I might say I'm REALLY happy that Tucker gave me a good number, that means that I'm really really really happy, inversely I might use it to show I'm REALLY angry about something, it's kind of like yelling. I sort of learned that the hard way

I don't think anyone's ever taken a poll, but I suspect that many of us who test, especially with testing freehand have poked ourselves. I've poked myself while testing Gabby, while fumbling with the lancet, etc. I'm none the worse for wear!

Howdy - and welcome! I freehand test too, and cannot count the number if times I have poked myself.... OW, but it's ok.

Welcome aboard - there are truly great people here!

Welcome to LL Barb. You'll get the hang of things here quickly and ther are lots of people to help. I freehand test too. For my pad i use a sheet of TP folded to about an inch square and then have it ready to blot and put pressure on the stick. That helps prevent bruising. If you use about a 45 degree angle there is less chance of getting yourself too and a little better bead of blood
