Hes at 75 now. Should I give him some more MC or let him stay?
That’s a great response to the MC. You could give him a tiny bit (1 tsp) of LC to see if he can stay in green. It’s trial and error. I don’t want clip his duration. You’ve given MC at +3 before and it slowed him. I think you know best so if you feel the MC is enough then hold off on LC.

Because he’s not yet at nadir, it’s probably best to test again in an hour at most from his last test.

Could you also please update the subject line? Thank you!

Sounds good, ill do that right now 😁

Fantastic! I see you fed him a bit of LC at +5 after the test? You can likely give him a break until +7 just so we see how he is handling the insulin through nadir.

On the SS, in the +3 column, you can “stack” the BGs by typing in “65; 75 @ 3.5”. You’ll have to manually color code it back to green. That lets us know you had time between tests. As it is now, it looks like a retest.

Great work!

98 at +7

Beautiful! Great job working his curve today.

You might want to get a +10. I won’t be around but that Staci or Mary if you need help. I’ll check in later.
I did have one question. My handheld meter has been fluctuating between giving me readings of low ketones and high ketones. I tested him 3 times (readings were 98 112 and 187 in that order) in a row at +7 just to be sure, and twice said low and once said high. His urine in his senior panel also had no ketones, and he gets bloodwork on the 12th so im going to request a ketone test as well. Hes still eating and drinking, no vomiting, and isnt showing any new behaviours other than wanting to be under the blanket. Its beginning to worry me, and im not sure if I should expedite his vet visit or not. His BG has been stable and usually signs of ketones would be above 250 consistently from what ive read, and he hasnt been even close to that as of late. I guess my question is what should I do? Should I get pet insurance now just in case he does end up having DKA?

Edit: I should specify

Hes not wobbly
Hes eating and drinking normally
Hes always been a lazy cat even prior to his diagnosis
The ketones are inconsistent and not always reading as high (often reading as low)
My meter doesnt give an exact number for ketones
His gums are wet and slimy
His eyes are clear
His ears are clean
Hes not yowling or pacing or behaving abnormally other than wanting to be cuddled underneath the blanket
His BG has stablized and hasnt exceeded 200mm/dL
I ordered ketone test strips theyll be here within the hour

Do you have a blood ketone meter and are you getting urine ketone strips? I’m not familiar with a meter that reads those type of numbers. Here is a post on ketones and DKA.

It’s easiest to test his urine ketones. Most strips have you read at exactly 15 seconds so be sure you are top of that. You can just slip a large spoon under him when he squats to pee and stick the ketone stick in that. Don’t put it in urine that is already in contact with litter. It is smart to test his ketones.

Looks like he had a second dip today. What a perfect Lantus cycle today!

I got urine ketone test strips and ive been watching him to monitor if he needs to pee or not. Should I get a blood ketone meter too?
