A little higher, but if you think about it, giving 2 full doses plus time change after splits equals 2 dose changes. I think he'll come down. It is getting warmer again though. Ugh. Will have to turn AC on again today.

Hey there! I have 2 questions - I just read on think tank that an opened lev cartridge should NOT be refrigerated. Is this true? Have I been doing it wrong all these months? Also, does the weather/heat make any difference with bg's?

Heather, I would most definitely refrigerate all opened and unopened lev.

The manufacturer states that opened lev should not be refrigerated, but they are assuming that a human is using it, will use it up within 28 days or nearly will, and can afford to throw out unused insulin (because insurance is covering one cartridge per month).

All of us here, that I know of, use lev to the last drop by keeping it in the fridge. I had a cartridge that lasted 8 months opened in the fridge.

If, let's suppose, you had a high dose kitty, getting more than a couple of units, then you would probably want to warm the insulin by holding the filled syringe with your fingertip surrounding the tip where the insulin is. And if a really high dose, like some acro kitties are on 10, 15, 20 units at a time, you would not refrigerate it, but you would also be using it up in a month.

Levemir should be refrigerated.

And anything which may make the cat uncomfortable can have an affect on BGs, but ECID, so what bothers some cats may not bother another. And other ailments may also effect how they feel and result in BG changes, such as arthritis. I think Gandalf is sometimes bothered by his arthritis and it's reflected in his BGs.

It's a matter of stress. Heat is stressful, that stress can translate in to higher BGs.
