I forgot about our weekly thread thing and kept adding to last week's thread!

Food definitely affects BG - or lack thereof....

Fed him 1oz raw mix around 8:30 AM after dose (1.3U on AMPS of 135), left for acu an hour later and he really didn't eat beforehand except the raw because he hid under the bed.

Had errands to run, left him at the vet clinic after acupuncture, so he went without food for almost 5 hours. I noted he ate well after we returned, but I decided to wait to test.

+7 he was 33.

Gave him some medium carb food and he came up to 105 by +8. Probably on the way up from there on rebound.

I am hesitant to drop the dose further as I doubt he would have gone this low with food on board. Wishing I had cancelled acu this morning so I could truly see what his cycle would have done on such a good AMPS.

Makes sense to me! As you know, consistency is the key in dealing with this disease, from shot times, to food times, to type of food, etc. Just makes things so much easier to figure out if everything stays the same as much as possible everyday. I know all these things aren't possible always, life and work get in the way of course, but it just helps.

I will be glad when you can get him on just the raw everyday and he is happy with just that. Hope he has a good PM number for you. :)

Yeah, but he won't eat the raw alone, meaning on his own and by itself. If I leave it out, Leahpold eats it all. I will continue to syringe it to him. Unfortunately since that last clinic stay with the P-titis flare and he puked up all his food after I gave his shot, he won't take it off the syringe anymore. At the clinic he was fed by the male tech - not sure if that put him off being syringe fed, he doesn't fight me, but it's odd he won't lick it off anymore. I tried mixing it with Wellness again and he still wouldn't take it. He eats fine otherwise.

So I won't be leaving him again and need to return home right after acu. After today I'm scheduling them every other week now, so that should make it easier. On an every week schedule I always seem to need to do something while we're in town. I live a half hour away.

It doesn't take much does it for them to figure out that they would rather have that old stinky canned food again. I know whenever Tigger is off his food for whatever reason and I have to resort to canned, it takes a while to get him back to the raw only.

That is too bad about the syringe feeding not working anymore. He was getting quite used to that and it was a good bonding time for you two.

How does he act while he is getting the acupuncture treatments? Does he just quietly lay there? Does he seem to relax?

He will lie there (paws under him so not like lying on his side) and close his eyes as the needles "cook." Last week when vet was late and then today he was just mad the whole time. Then we added insult to injury today and clipped his claws afterward. A couple were curling around and vet had a hard time getting the clippers around them, one bled I think because he jerked and the clippers hit that tender skin right there. Not a great scenario to do it today but I knew they were getting bad. I can't clip them myself anymore.

She didn't charge me, shhhh.

He was 357 tonight. I stayed with the dose of 1.3U (old 1.1U measure). I also gave >50ml fluids, greater than 50 'cause it was the end of the bag and I'm not real sure how much that was.

Aw, he had a hard time at the vet's with all that poking and clipping. Maybe he was mad in anticipation. I always think it's funny when they get mad like that, but I try not to laugh because that just makes it worse.

Well, you know he will setlle in a cycle or two after going low. I wonder how low he was when you first got home?

(I was looking for your posts earlier in the week - just figured you were busy with work. I didn't thik to look at the last thread).

Yeah so Gandalf had a pretty crappy day yesterday - I'm sorry Vicky.

A hard rebound but expected given the 33 @ +7. I have all the confidence in world that you will get his numbers back on track in no time.

I think it's a good thing that the accu appts. will be moving to every other week - it should make it easier on the both of you. I know you really like the accu vet a lot and have a ton of respect for her, did she question why you are moving the appts to every other week?

We were doing every other week until his P-titis flare, so no biggie. He seems to be over that, although his BG was high again tonight, 387. He went to food bowl after shot - the raw mix didn't smell good to me. I usually use it up in 2 days and I don't heat it up in bowl anymore, so not sure why it smells yucky, although I had mixed it with Merrick Cowboy Cookout, which is beef based. May have made it go bad sooner.

Not really, although yesterday wasn't too bad with the split doses. I can tell he felt better, consequently is more active today although he had 321 BG at +11 this AM. Usually happens after the split dose. I am home this weekend, so will get some spot checks tomorrow.

Thanks, Michele.

As usual it seems the earlier shots seem to help. He has a reaction to the splits the day after (that 321 Saturday morning), but otherwise I've been very happy with his preshots this weekend. And a 96 at nadir today is awesome!

Just hope he doesn't throw me a low number in the morning. I'm shooting 1/2 hour early tonight and AM will probably also have to be another +11.5 because we have snow and I'll have to leave earlier. Unless I'm purposely late and blame it on the weather

I vote for purposely late due to weather! .....Like- a DAY late! Have another day off, courtesy of FDMB gals!! WE said you could!

Thank you! I have no choice - 8 to possibly 10" of heavy wet snow here, it will take me all day to shovel out my driveway wide enough to get my car through.

Gandalf was 167 AMPS, even with hiding under the bed because he thought we were going to the vet since I went outside before his shot. Silly cat. :-D

Nice AMPS, G!

And Vicky- he wasn't "hiding"...it's called "self-preservation"! Sheesh...let the man have his dignity! ;-)

So- did I read that you have today off, then?! :RAHCAT

Course, if it is anything like my business, you'll just have that much more to do tomorrow, but that is tomorrow- enjoy TODAY!

So, you got the heavy wet stuf, eh? Our weather is saying 90% of heavy RAIN- though it will likely cause flooding itself in addition to melting our snow pack, if I had my 'druthers, I think I prefer the flooding, I guess ( less of the evils? she said from her mountian top while feeling badly for her low lying neighbors)

hmmm...what a conundrum our nation is having!

Nah, the snow plow guy came back by about 9 and took pity on me as he no doubt saw my 10' strip I shoveled before giving up!!

Gandalf was 215 tonight, so holding fairly steady now on regular schedule and 1.3U dose. And I know we're on to the next week already....
