I posted earlier that I wasn't sure if I got the insulin in because its such a little amount. If someone could look at his spreadsheet.. his numbers didnt really change at all so I'm thinking I didnt get it ?

Hi Julie!

Don’t despair! It could be that Smokey’s Lantus depot is building up, and that could be why you aren’t seeing any action today. I may be wrong but I think it can take a couple of cycles to see the Lantus start to work.

You can read a little about the Lantus Depot here

Hello Julie,
It could be a fur shot or just the depot building up which takes a few cycles! Anyway just keep on as you usually do and give him his regular shot tonight!

After shooting, always smell his fur where you shot to make sure you did it OK; if there's a fur shot, you'll know right away by the smell.
(just shoot a little in the sink or on a paper towel and smell it....; after that you'll recognize the smell :woot: )

Here is your earlier post today http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/i-dont-know-if-insulin-went-in.215036/#post-2381761

If I can make a housekeeping suggestion, since this insulin support group is so busy, it is helpful if you post once a day, and if you have questions later just change your title. That way we don't have multiple posts going on at the same time ;). If I recall correctly, today was your first shot? As Amanda said it takes often a few cycles to see what the dose will do, and particularly if you haven't been giving any insulin yet.

Do I have to use a new needle for each shot?
YES, one needle per shot!
and here are some instructions to link your posts:
Here is how to "link" your previous condo.
1. Call up your previous condo and go to the very top line of your browser's screen, where you will see the URL for the condo (www. felinediabetes.com etc. etc). Highlight this URL (right click on a PC; control click on a Mac). Click the "Edit" button and click "copy" (on some browsers, "copy" will automatically appear, so you don't have to click the Edit button).
2. In your today's condo write at the top of your post something like "Previous Condo", or "Yesterday". Highlight the word(s) you just wrote.
3. Go to the function bar at the top of the Lantus Forum and click on the symbol that looks like a chain link (7th symbol from the left). A dropdown box will appear asking for the URL. Go back up to "Edit" on your browser and click "paste". The URL will appear in the box.
4. Click on "insert".
This sounds time-consuming, but it is really very simple and fast.

Last question for the night Haha . I'm really sorry !! I'm really stressing about his shot tonight . I will be giving it in an hour (10pm where I am ) which means i should be going to sleep soon there after . Should I stay up all night to monitor him ?

Hi and welcome. Any reason why you are injecting so late? It’s best to shoot earlier so you can get a test in around 2-3 hours after injecting and if it’s an active cycle you might need to stay up longer or set an alarm for a future test.

I decided to do 10am and 10pm because I am gone from the house from 6am-930am 4 days a week and I'd like to be home after giving his shot . So if gave his shot at 10 I would be testing around midnight ? Do I need to set an alarm and test again after that ?

I’d grab a test at +2 or +3 as that will give you a pretty good idea if you need to test later. For most a lower number at +2 means an active cycle so you would want to test again later. If higher a before bed test should do it. Max usually didn’t onset until a little later so I’d grab a +3 and go from there.

He was 361 Pre shot - so if I test closer to 1am what range would be okay to go to sleep ?
Sorry that I'm so clueless with this. Its our first night :blackeye:

Eating can bring him up. He’s high enough that you can stop testing for tonight. Suggest you read the yellow stickies on how lantus works. It’s a depot drug so it takes up to six cycles to see what a dose will do. Some cats respond quickly though so it’s best to get a mid cycle test whenever you can. Also read up on TR and SLGS to see which approach you want to take. You don’t need to do it all at once. It’s a lot to absorb. Get some sleep.

Thank you so much!
I am going to do SLGS. I'm going to test him once more at +3 just to make sure all is good.

Thank you again !!
