Yo cats and kittens of all ages

It’s pawty time for the Full Wolf Moon! Of course there will be traditional favorites as purrpared by my mentors, Chef Rusty, Chef Felix and the Kitchen Krews of yore at Wolf Moons past:

Appetizers: Wolfpack Beer; Hot Tuna Toddies with crunchy croutons ; Glüwein; Hot Buffalo Chicken Wings; Assorted Paw Prints Pizzas (with wolf paw prints); Sushi Bar specialties of Sushi Chef Tux and featuring fresh-caught, Indian Lake fish.

Entrees: Chef Rusty's Thunderin' Bison Chili; Mousehead Goulasch; Roasted Mallard Duck; Grilled Wild Turkey Sausages; Chef Mannie's Renowned PNW Poached Sockeye Salmon with Catnip Mayo; Fresh-caught Fried Northern Lake Trout; Chicken 'n Biscuits.

Salad: Butthead's and Donny's Marinated Winter Field Greens; Adirondack Hot Slaw.

Desserts: Moon Pies; Maggie's Signature Cheesecakes with Iceberries; Cranberry Torte à la Chief Pastry Chef Tess; Surprise Dessert à la Dessert Chef Sootie; Tobey's Cimmamum Cookies; Chef Stu's World Famous Catmint Parfaits.

Newer traditions include Leo's Chunky Tuna and Salmon Ice Cream with Sardine Sprinkles; Chef Felix's Sweet and Savory Crunchy Crouton Toppers; Olive's Shoelaceghetti with a side of pickles; TinySolé's sister Cookie's cod brownies filled with catnip; PussCatDusty's crispy birds feet served on baked catnip wafers (mmmmm, crunchy!) as well as her sweet and sour skink tail vol-au-vents & freeze dried plain yoghurt balls; Chef Felix's Mediterranean platter with crunchy falafel, catmint mewli-tabouli, and smoked papurrika hummouse; Chieflet Luna's Longtail Surprise à la Rosa and Regan. You'll find Bella's Catinis at the Bella Memorial Tiki Hut.

Not feeling up to whooping it up? Fear not! The Taster Blankets, as well as Olive’s Memorial Blanket are spread for kitties who are grieving and for kitties who are too unwell for dancing and feasting (but maybe the special menu will tempt you to just a bite or two). Taster-Kitchen Liaison Roxi will make sure each bite is just perfect. And you’ll have an excellent view of the Circle of Remembrance when all the kitties will join you as the veil thins to see all our beloved GAs partying alongside us.

Ruby and the Kittens will be busting out their best dance moves. Now it’s a New Year, they’re working on all new moves for 2023. They would love for you all to join in and dance along with them! If DJ Molly is feeling up to it, she’ll have her turntables out and ready for your requests. If she’s not feeling good tonight, we’ll save her a space on the taster blankets and the Kitchen Krew can take turns managing the music for you all.

Check out our new aprons too – aren’t they just wonderful?

So grab your pawty outfits and head on over for a real night to remember!

Chef Luna

For all the caregivers, let's have a potluck and pool whatever treats are left over from the holidays. I can contribute florentine squares, Toblerone shortbread dough (frozen), Belgian chocolate shortbread, chocolate covered marzipan, an assortment of cheeses, assorted ales (the kids waltzed off with the wine and I never saw it again), a Christmas pud (thanks Nigella), and an Irish Whiskey soused (sodden may be a better word) fruit cake made with real fruit. There's probably a bag of sausage rolls in the freezer if anyone cares to dig. I can't have any of the above, so dig in.

For those who do not imbibe, there is carbonated pear lemonade and also carbonated pomegranate lemonade.

For the occasion I thought folks might like to see a pic of me and wolves along the Columbia River. I was doing research at a wolf sanctuary and went out with the Director and two wolves who are not tame but somewhat habituated. I was not to speak to them nor to touch them but while I was walking along a deadfall tree, the wolves were running along the top and when i stopped they did this. The smaller wolf then started licking my hair!!! Inside voice: eeeeee! I think they thought we were related having the same colour hair...

Happy Full Wolf Moon!

Oh wow! All of those sound delicious! I can contribute chocolate gingerbread cake, lemon chiffon cheesecake, nutella brownies, vanilla ice cream, and apple and mincemeat pie. All home-made and gluten-free. I've also got a tin of shortbread that really needs to go before I decide to make hot chocolate and eat the lot myself since DH has to be gluten free and can't help with it!

How awesome! What an amazing experience to have. I love wild wolves, but the closest I've got to anything like that was spending a day on a sanctuary where they had adopted a Mexican grey wolf. She was pretty old, and incredibly tame - she acted more like a dog than a wolf and sought out attention from people.

apple and mincemeat pie
Humans overdose on sugar while making sure their cat goes nowhere near it. :D I do like apple and mincemeat but can't do the pie crust. I have chronic pancreatitis and have to watch the fat.

What an experience! We used to drive out into the country late at night occasionally and listen to the wolves, coyotes, and coywolves howl at the moon.
I used to know a half wolf dog. To greet you, she'd take your wrist into her mouth gently, then let go, signifying friend. Her language was different as well.

And now it's time kitties - time for the Circle of Remembrance. Gather round to watch our precious GAs pawtying alongside us at the Bridge. Cheaser, I'm sure I see China and Cleo over there...and I see Rosa and Regan and Licorice too as well as everyone's beloved GAs. There's Chef Felix, and Chef Rusty! I hope I'm doing OK guys and following your recipes the way you like them! ~Chef Luna

While I do love desserts, I actually cook with minimal sugar and fat...as well as minimal salt in savory foods. I grew up that way - my Dad has been low salt, low fat, low sugar for as long as I can remember, so my wonderful Mum adapted all his favorite recipes so that he could still have them without overdoing things. The recipe I inherited for the cheesecake (from DH's mom) wanted a cookie base...and then to add a cup of sugar on top! I skipped out on the extra sugar in that. And my apple pie has only a couple of spoons of sugar in the whole thing...just enough that it's slightly sweet instead of sour. There are plenty of other ways of adding sweetness to food without dousing it in pounds of sugar, fortunately - mashed banana even makes a decent substitute for flour in some recipes while adding sweetness, even though you wouldn't expect it to.

Gosh, it looks like several FDMB kitties are at the Bridge party for the first time, including a few that Felix used to party with on this side of the veil. I imagine them all healthy and happy and whole, thinking tenderly of their mommas/families who are heartsore from the recent goodbyes. :rb_icon:

I can bring some wassail.:coffee:

I have chronic pancreatitis
How awful--I know nothing about that except how sad it is when kitties here on the board have it, and I hate to think of you having it too!

I'm sure you're doing great, Chef Luna! For one thing, my kitties always comment when they get home about how the crunchy croutons are just like in the good old days.
