Had a chat with the vet yesterday. Aside from the *probable* pancreatis (vet says not 100% sure as the blood test was not done fasting. Tom is eating, gaining weight and does not show any obvious symptoms of pancretitis. Will rerun fasting to be sure),Tom's kidney values are continuing to worsen.
She mentionned switching him to low protein food. Now, I have been reading a lot on the different resources available here on the debate regarding CRF and low protein foods. My concern is to manage his kidney issues along with his currently OTJ status.
We are (were) feeding only Wellness chicken and turkey, which - according the Janet & Binky's list - have 30% /31% protein respectively and phosphorus of 219/200. Carbs are well below 10 on both. We intentionally moved away from anything fishy / higher in phosporus last summer and continue to add lots of water to food.
On Janet & Binky's list, there is 2 renal foods from Royal Canin that appear to have lower protein and phosphorus that the Wellness, with only slightly higher carbs (8 and 11). Does anyone have any experience / comments about this brand?
