Hey,

Ailish had a UTI in early October, it came back at the start of November, we treated it and she tested clear of it two weeks ago, today she is going to the box and not producing urine again. Does anyone have experience with recurring UTI’s in diabetic cats?

I'm tagging a couple of members that may be able to answer your concern on UTI, Have a Blessed Thanksgiving Day:bighug::bighug::cat::cat:

Is the vet sure it is a UTI and not FLUTD? The symptoms can be similar. I had the same experience with Sheba and after using several courses of antibiotics, she was diagnosed with idiopathic cystitis (One of the diagnoses under the FLUTD umbrella). I would suggest looking up FLUTD on Google as there are treatment options.

Did the vet take a urine sample and test it for a culture and sensitivity or did he just give an antibiotic?

A vet had mentioned that to me in the past. She is really affected by stress. I spoke with our primary care vet this morning and am waiting to hear back. Unfortunately I don’t have resources for another ER visit unless it is emergent. She’s peeing a bit more now so right now I’m just trying to keep her comfortable.

Stress plays a big part in FLUTD. You don’t need to go to the ER, just your local vet.
I used a calming collar, cosequin, tried to minimise stress and used adequan which supports the bladder wall.
It comes and goes. I always found if we had people staying Sheba didn’t know, she would get a flare up, or if I went away for a couple of days she would get a flare up. Sometimes she had blood in the urine and others times she didn’t. But she usually started with not being able to pee for a few hours and would go back and forth to the LB and then she would pee tiny amounts. And sometimes she would be unaware she was peeing if she was lying down. When things settles down she would go back to normal.
