Greetings, everybody,
It's been quite a while since I've posted here. My cat Eukanubo is now almost 14 years of age, was diagnosed in late 2009 and was on insulin until around March 2010, when he went into a beautiful remission. I would check his glucose readings once a month and they were always in the 80s, he did fine until last year, when he started losing a lot of weight and being very lethargic, only laying on a bench all day, to the point that I had to spoon feed him He had all kinds of tests, including X rays and an abdominal ultrasound which only revealed a tiny enlarged lymph node, too small to biopsy. His glucose was fine at the time. I switched him from Friskies Mixed Grill to Fancy Feast and slowly spoon fed him back to health, this was last March. So he had another stretch of good health, he put on his weight back, then in October, there was an issue of possible thyroid enlargement and slightly high kidney numbers, but he was ravenously hungry and eating, and I noticed his glucose readings have been creeping up. So a couple of weeks ago took him to the vet, and his glucose was even higher (like in the 400s) than what my meter said (mid 200s). So, my meter has been inaccurate for I don't know how long. I tried to switch him back to the Mixed Grill but he just ignores it, so it's back to Fancy Feast, and now he is back on insulin. It's a good thing that it's not as difficult as the first time, but neither me nor him are happy about it. His glucose readings are hovering in the 200s-300s (still with the inaccurate meter), he seems to be OK for the most part, although sometimes he looks like death warmed over, sometimes he is all perky and seems comfortable and content. After all, he is not a young cat and I know he can only live so long. As long as he is comfortable, I will keep treating him, although this insulin, strips and vet visits are getting expensive. I'm currently using the Free Style Lite meter and strips, anybody has any recommendations for something reliable, cheaper, or a way of getting these strips in bulk to bring down the price? I appreciate any input or feedback
Thanks!
