Easy to eat food?

Moochie is very willing to eat canned food but can't get it off the plate. It smooshes and sticks. I've tried making different sized balls, patties, flicked itty bitty pieces, chopped, peaks, and different surfaces to no avail. I used fancy feast flaked tuna and shrimp (dark blue label) but as he licks it, it rolls away. All other flaked is sticky. If I as water, he laps the liquid leaving gritty pieces of food behind. I had this same issue with my crf girl but she finally figured out to scoop with her paw or chomp into a small peak.

He gets tired of licking and gives up. Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality canned food that is easy to lap up? He refuses fish flavors. I feel like the mousse foods might be starchy? Thoughts?

Will he eat pate texture? We have a senior cat who’s missing most of his teeth and he has the same issue. But he will happily eat FF pate as long as we mix it up for him with a spoon so it’s easier to eat (once it’s broken down). The FF pate is LC so it could work from that perspective.

Also Moochie is very handsome!

Edit - Tiki Cat also has LC mousse options, which are also easy to lap up
 
He thinks so too! I've been using pate. Each different fancy feast flavor is a different level of moisture. He just licks and licks and it flattens out. Ff naturals .... He drinks the broth...the end. Lol!

Ugh bummer… maybe the Tiki mousse texture will work? It’s a lot softer than the pate.

When you’re as handsome as Moochie, your personal chef will figure it out for you ;)

You know I forgot about tiki. I keep thinking in terms of feeding 7 cats all the same diet but I could separate him for the mousse. Oh! Thank you!!

Of course! Fingers crossed!

If he happens to like it (and you’re around Boston - though probably unlikely), I have a bunch of Tiki mousse that picky Moonie has rejected 🤣
 
Moonie, my new fur friend, which mousse flavors do you prefer and which ones are lo carb? Btw, you are a handsome devil!
 
Try a bowl. Food gets pushed to the sides and a cat can use its tongue to scoop the food up. Much easier than a flat plate where food is just pushed around and off. A wide bowl would help if your cat has whisker sensitivity.

Elevating the bowl can also help. A shoe box works. There are pet bowl stands that hold a bowl at an angle so that it's easier for a cat to eat food that isn't pushed all over the place.
