Does Anyone Have A UTI Kitty?

Jr. Mint's eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping. When I saw him this morning, and spoke to him, he gave front pawed happy feet. There were spots on the carpet next to him where he laid last night. I'm concerned that the antibiotics aren't helping. There's still a fair amount of leaking, as well as blood in the urine. It's pink, but still a concern. He's on Clavamox 2x a day, and an anti-inflammatory 1x a day. I hope that this clears up rather soon. He goes in for a checkup tomorrow morning. Tomorrow morning can't happen soon enough.

Is this constant leaking normal as he's healing?

I know that I'm going to be changing his diet, and I've already started doing that since he got home. As he's not 100% fond of ht A/D food that was given to us, I've mixed in a bit of Friskies T&G to get him to eat it. He loves Friskies.

If he had a catheter in, perhaps his sphincter may be a little loose? That may recover in time.

It can take a bit for antibiotics to work. How many days has it been?

How was the UTI diagnosed? Maybe Clavamox is not a suitable/effective antibiotic. My Stuarts was on Clavamox but after two weeks on it he still had loads of bacteria in his urine. I then gave him four weeks of Baytril and that resolve the UTI. Similarly, Patches' UTI did not go away on Clavamox but Baytril worked fine.

One of my cats (not the diabetic) has had urinary problems and had to have PU surgery in April, 2009. He has not been able to control himself as well since surgery so he urinates about 4-5 times per day instead of the normal 2 times a day that my other cats do. He only dribbles when he has some inflammation or irritation. In addition to antibiotics, the vet has given him a shot of steriods which seems to make the dribbles go away after a couple of days. The antibiotics that the vet gave were in the shot that i found out is very dangerous so I don't think we will use that one again. My female Himalayan cat who died in 2003 at 19 years old had urinary tract problems and responded well to Baytril. She never dribbled like my male cat does now. You may want to add more water to your cat's canned food so that he goes to the bathroom more and maybe flush out some of the bacteria.
