There isn't an easy way to say this - Max's prognosis today was really poor, so we made the very difficult decision to let her go.

Thank you, everyone. She was doing so well with her Lantus dosing and it wasn't the diabetes in the end - she just declined really rapidly overnight and while we could have opted for more aggressive treatment (with a low probability of success) it seemed a better decision to let her go.
 
I'm so sorry. These sudden ones are so difficult. He felt your love and it's a gift to keep them from suffering.

It tears at our hearts to do the right thing and let them go but we will never be ready to say goodbye. Sweetest Max, please send a sign soon that you made it to the bridge. All of our GAs will welcome you tonight.

I am so sorry. Feeling your loss very acutely since my little man is very ill also. It's so, so hard.
Max was a lovely girl and you gave her a wonderful life. Rest easy, Max.

Oh Sarah I am so sorry to hear that sweet Max has passed, my deepest condolences to you at this very sad time. You gave her the greatest gift of love by setting her free. Land softly little onecat_wings>o

I am so sorry to learn about Max's crossing. You were a wonderful mama to her, and you gave her the best possible life, as well as the most loving, selfless gift of all. I pray you will find peace in knowing she is feeling good and watching over you from the bridge.

Thank you, Serryn - it was all a bit sudden (although in hindsight there were some indicators more was going on).

I felt the same, that Max was going so well with the Lantus and I was confident there would be a point where we could manage the diabetes with food, at least for a while...

I do appreciate your help and the help and support of everyone here :cat:

Norse Legend of the Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
