Hi, so since I had a 3 day weekend I was able to do more testing than I normally can. After getting most readings in the mid 200's and lowest at 109 at one point, yesterday in the 11th hour, pre second shot, he was up to 429. I have never seen it that high and was quite shocked. 3 hours post that shot then, it was back down to 201.
I am using the Reli-On Micro, and he is on ProZinc, 1.5 units twice a day. There was no change in his diet, no stress going on. He is recuperating from Pancreatitis, and was hoping he was over that hump. There is one clue, and that's really what this post is all about: the sample for that 429 was VERY small, I'm surprised it even registered, I was kinda making it be--I have had a lot of trouble getting blood from him no matter how much a massage his little ears. Anyways, I could see that his fur on his ear was red but there wasn't really a "drop" pooling up and I kinda smooshed the strip into this faint smudge of red that was barely there. Could that be the cause of a mis-read?? Thanks for your input on this, of course I will be telling my vet too. Just went home for lunch to do a 5 hour on him and it was 249.

Smoky has pancreatitis too and on occasion when he has a flareup his BG will jump for a few hours and then drop back down again. I am really surprised you got a reading that way. I use the relion micro and whenever I have used smeared blood on a test strip I get an error message. It's either says not enough blood error or test strip error. I think it's E3 and E6 codes on that meter. I will tag a few people for you who have helped me out a lot in my journey with FD.

Do you have our spreadsheet program?? It's really necessary for us to see one before we can give much in the way of useful advice.

If the 109 was on the same cycle as the 429, it was probably a bounce....bounces are set of by 1. dropping too low 2. dropping too quickly and 3. dropping into a number that the cats' body isn't used to anymore.....or any combination of all 3!!

I suspect that his body isn't used to living in "better" numbers anymore, so his liver reacted (thinking it was an emergency) and released stored sugars and hormones to bring him back up to where he's "used to" being.....he "bounced"

Thank you! Interesting. I am doing a spreadsheet but not the one online. No the 109 was 2 days before. 5 hours before the 429 it was 228, and 2 hours before that it was 219. His numbers the day before were, in reverse, 241, 262, 175.

If he was 109 during the cycle and then very quickly popped up to the 400s and then came back down again, it could be that he lost duration during the earlier cycle. It's hard to say without seeing a SS and looking at a few cycles together.

This can cause a mis-read. I've had the same thing happen - a reading that's way too high based on the previous numbers where I got an 'only just big enough' blood drop. I tested again with a better sample and got a much more reasonable number. I'm not saying it is the explanation but it just might be. If you're having trouble getting enough blood from his ears, you could always try testing on his paw pads instead - I've found they tend to bleed much more easily.

Any time you get an unusual reading, a second test could help. Chances are it was a bounce. Even though 109 isn't a dangerous number, if it's lower than his body is used to be could send out the extra insulin.

If you could put the numbers you have into our spreadsheet, it really would help us to help you!!!

It's easy to use...you just type in the numbers and it color codes it automatically

I have just spent the last 3 hours trying to do the spreadsheet. I consider myself more computer savy than the average 53 year old, however this has now become ridiculous! I have tried both Option 1 and 2. Option 1 by the way does not explain saving a copy to your desktop for editing. The bottom line is I have the spreadsheet on my desktop, the link in my signature (although now deleted for the 4 time) and the edits from the desktop are not translating to the google drive doc. Very frustrating.

If you'd like some help, I'd be happy to help you set it up and get everything done

Just click on my name and choose "start conversation" so I can get some details from you

Took me working on it over the course of two days to get it right and I have a masters in educational technology. Does that make you feel better? Lol
Yes thank you it does! I was watching TV and going over all of it in my head and it was driving me nuts. I had to go back online and try again. I downloaded Google Chrome as Bronx's dad suggested. It wants to update which it can't do because my OS is too old. I continued and tried again with no luck. I may be taking up Chris's offer to do it for me!

Are you on a computer or phone /tablet?
Try downloading the app Google Sheets

I believe now I misunderstood this whole thing. For some reason I thought that the spreadsheet in Google Docs would automatically upload edits I made from the sheet on my desktop--I guess that would be magic. But I read now in other posts that is not the way it works.

It should sync if you select that box in your drive settings. Did you try what I explained above?

It does automatically show updates. As long as you allow people to see it we can see your updates as you make them.

Did you download Google Sheets?
No I did not. I will try that next, but in the meantime am simply monitoring with a pen and a set of colored sharpies, and my vet saw his numbers today so I'm good for the moment. Thank you everyone.
