Worried and need advise please. My diabetic cat had a urine culture done about a month ago and was determined to have a urinary tract infection. The results indicated that the infection was resistant to many antibiotics and Convenia was suggested. The vet administered one shot a week for three weeks. We did another urine culture and the infection is gone. My cat vomited once a few days after the second shot and I thought it might be becuase of the antibiotic. I gave him pepcid ac and started giving him probiotics. The week after the third shot he vomited 2 or 3 times. It has been about 9 days since his last shot and it is becoming more frequent that he is turning away meals or eating and throwing up (not every meal though). I am taking him to the vet this afternoon.

Is there any questions I should ask the vet? I just saw a post about anemia from Convenia injections but need to go back and read some more. Any information or links would be very helpful.

Thanks!

The vomiting is becoming more frequent as he moves further away from the Convenia? I would suspect then, that perhaps the infection is returning. I would simply tell your vet what you've noticed and see if he feels your kitty needs longer on an antibiotic. If you are not comfortable with Convenia, then you and he can discuss an oral antibiotic.

There are also medications that can be prescribed to help the nausea.

You could read through this thread, there's a lengthy discussion on the shot here:

Diabetes can cause more urinary tract problems, but so can Hyperthyroidism. If this were my cat, I'd see when the last thyroid panel was run, if one was done, and check for hypert.

Hypert and FD can share many of the same symptoms including vomitting, weight loss, increased water intake, increased urine as well as other things.

Covenia can cause anemia. One of the symptoms of anemia is inappetance, lethargy, etc. Whether you suspect UTI coming back, Hyperthyroid, or anemia, I strongly urge you to get a full blood panel done on your cat asap.
