Connor - 172 AMPS on 4/22 - Intro

I've been fostering Connor for Siamese Rescue since the end of January. We found out he had diabetes when he went for his vet check and blood work. He's 13 years old and the rest of his bloodwork looked good. We've had a heck of a time trying to get him regulated on insulin, first on ProZinc during February and now on Lantus since early March.

Libby has been helping me out the entire time and she suggested that I share his info with others in this group.

He's currently on a 5.75 dosage and is going through a 'breakthrough' period. Yay! Finally, after 3 months. I work out of my house and Connor stays in my office so I am able to monitor him continuously.

If you know anybody who might be interested in adopting a diabetic older gentleman ....

(Well, okay, I think he might be here for a while.)

Thanks for having this board - I've spent hours and hours looking through all the great information here.

Well, it's nice to meet you... o:-) So good of you to foster Conner! I have 2 13 year olds myself...one is OTJ in early Dec and the other is taking his sweet old time getting anywhere! We are on the West Coast...Madeira Beach so I am waving to you across the miles! Can you see me? Where are you?

Libby is the BEST!!! So glad you are here. What we do in Lantus Land is post each day (a condo for the day) and we link our past condo to the first post in the morning. We list AMPS and also ask any questions we might have in our condo....you can also add any BGs you might have gotten through the night too. You are welcome to visit other people's condo to and give support and get to know everyone. We are like big happy family here!! Libby and the other people here have been such a great help to me and my two....so wonderful!

Welcome to you and Conner!! Hope you will find help and comfort here.... :YMHUG:
ETA: Nice job on the SS. But....UGH....those blacks! :o Do you see how lately the numbers are looking so much better....so pleasant to see the change. Guess you have reached a good point...finally! Congratulations!!! My stomach is still doing flips after seeing all those blacks and reds...guess I am a little sensitive. Whew...glad he is doing better now! (cleansing breaths...LOL)

thanks for stopping by and introducing yourselves! We are also raising a siamese, not a rescue, just a loud sassy mouthed blue eyed meezer! Can't wait to see pics of your guy ....

Hi Donna! I'm glad you're here, now we can get more eyes on Connor now that he's starting to change (finally!). He has been a challenge so far, just when you think he's going to zig, he zags instead. How very Siamese of him.

Hillary, I bet there are more pictures on the Siamese Rescue site: http://www.va.siameserescue.org then click on Siamese Available and search for Connor. There you can learn how to adopt him too. ;-)

I fell right into THAT one Libby....thanks a LOT!!! SO many beautiful kitties....
I have to get a grip. I know that my two are happy with things just as they are. But seriously, there are such beautiful babies on that link. Conner is so cute! Hope they will all find good homes. I hope lots of people click on that link. How great!!!

Hi Donna
Welcome to Lantus!!
This is an amazing place and well a friend of Libby's is bound to make tons and tons
of friends here.

Connor is so handsome.
Thanks Libby for sharing the link.
I went through the 8 pages of beautiful kitties.

Thanks for the welcome!

Here's something a little unusual. When I got Connor I was over my limit on fosters and didn't have any place to isolate him. Then I realized I could keep him in a spare bird cage I had in my office. I had been anticipating having avian visitors during the day but never got around to bringing anybody in (I have eight parrots). The bird cage was as big as a cat playpen so all I had to do was remove the perches and put in 'shelving'. So, Connor spends much of his time in his bird cage!

I surprised even Libby once when I recorded a reading of 703. She asked what kind of meter gave me a reading like that. Alphatrak - the folks at "headquarters" for Siamese Rescue had sent that meter to use with Connor.

Yes - that Libby IS the best. Little did I know when Siamese Rescue suggested I use her as a mentor that I was getting such an expert!

Oh - I live on Merritt Island - Kennedy Space Center is about 7 miles north of us. And Cape Canaveral is due West. We have quite a show when the rockets go off around here!

Hope I can figure out how to attach a photo. This is the second time I've typed this message - I previewed it and clicked on an attachment and lost my message!

Hopefully you can see my boy.

Hello and welcome to LL what a great place this is and if Libby has been helping you then you are in the best of hands.

Welcome to Lantus Land (LL)

I've actually heard a little bit about Connor. It's wonderful that you are fostering this adorable kitty! I'm sure Libby has directed you to all of the stickies. There are a ton of links in several of them, including links to the slang we use in these parts.

Please feel free to visit our condos and look at our SSs. It's a great way to learn. It's so good to hear that you're seeing some movement in Connor's numbers! Just out of curiosity, does he like the birdcage?

Re: Connor - 172/102/141/135 on 4/22 - Update

He likes the bird cage - with the normal cat playpens they are so close to the floor and in the bird cage he's really high up and can survey his realm.

Libby thought he was going to take a drop today. So, just to prove her wrong, Connor decided to be the perfect patient. It's unbelievable how he's turned around in the last few days.

And today - a completely blue day! So far, anyway.

Oh - you do have me stumped on "condo". Not in the slang directory.

Welcome to LL!

It's wonderful what you are doing for Connor.. and he's thanking you with some really awesome numbers today!

I'm stopping in to say hi and welcome you to Lantus Land, too! Took a look see at ss...OMG!!! I was like, sick to my stomach seeing all those high numbers. Brought back memories of Spot when he was on Humulin N. I was using the Relion Ultima and it only went up to 500, so there were many days that I didn't know how high he really was.
I was so relived when I saw those beautiful numbers Conner has been getting the past few days! Good job, I'm sure you are more relieved that I am, lol.

Conner is a beautiful boy. I LOVE the picture of him in his bird cage. He looks quite content in there!

WELCOME TO LANTUS LAND!! What numbers you were getting!!! That Connor is too sweet & beautiful to be in such high numbers..
Glad to hear you are under Libby's wing!! He is really a gorgeous cat & we are glad to have him & you here.
