Hi all, well it was quite a day yesterday and I am feeling rather discouraged today. :( Over the weekend I tried a mini curve with small meals throughout the day (Saturday 8/01) and another mini curve on 8/02 feeding only twice a day at AMPS and PMPS. Rupert had some high numbers on 8/01 even with a larger dose and yesterday I had issues with him throwing up after eating. I tried the smearing on a plate, taking away for 5 mins, but he still wants to devour it quickly. The throw up looked ok, nothing unusual, just an over eating issue. I have tested for ketones, so far no problem. I had to be away in the late afternoon and night yesterday, so I was about 20-25 mins late with PMPS. He held the food down for a bit, but did throw up again. Then I messed up shuffling food and he got into some dry kibble at +2 on PMPS. :banghead: I tested at +3 and his numbers had gone down some. I did not feed anymore that night. He was really high this AMPS, which I hope is due to the blasted kibble. I am going back to 4 feedings a day, he seems to do better with this schedule. Is it time to try 2 U? I gave him a 1.8 U this morning, but a little on the high side, closer to 2. I will be home, so will be taking some additional tests. Sorry this is so long winded, I am just confused about how high he is going, after upping his dosage even. He seems fine, not overly lethargic, eating fine, walking fine, etc. I can't seem to get this right and I am worried about how often he has high numbers. Any advice would be appreciated, I am feeling very discouraged today. (also have another sick kitty, hoping she just over ate yesterday, she ate her dinner and most of her brothers too, I usually don't allow that, but got distracted with Rupert :()

Sorry you and Rupert are having a hard time. Yes, I think upping the dose to 2 units is fine. The cycle on 8/1 was nice, just a little higher overall than he needs to be. I know it is frustrating but pull on those patience pants. You two have not been at this too long. My Oliver went off the juice at 6 months and that was considered pretty fast. The "Every Cat is Different" is so true - some kitties just take longer to start using the insulin with the food.

I posted this for someone this morning. Have you seen it?

Yes, I would guess the amps was the kibble. We did suggest smearing the food around on a plate and adding water to it to slow his scarf and barf, right?

And it is SO important that he is feeling good, eating good, peeing and pooping. Don't forget that he is much more than a number. And Lynn, you must not forget how much you have learned in the past month and how well you are taking care of sweet Rupert. Remember to breathe, sweetie.

Thanks Sue, I know you are right, it was just a bad day and I still have hope things will improve. So today, I will put on those pants (again), breathe and keep a stiff upper lip! Yes, I do smear, smash and add water, also take the food away for a few mins, he chows it down as quickly as he can despite all this. But with smaller meals at least he won't throw up what he did eat, hope so anyway. I will check out the link you gave. Thanks again Sue, you are a peach (ha, so fitting for a gal from GA) ! :bighug:

I did read that letter, it was purrfect! Made me smile and I recognized myself for sure. :nailbiting: Thanks for reminding me to chill out and smile! :D

You just gotta keep trucking along! Things will get better. One of the hardest things for me to learn was ECID. Mostly because it felt like if something worked for one kitty, it ought to work for all kitties. It's hard to just keep trying different things, hoping you'll find what your particular cat needs. But you WILL find it. You have to remember that you are doing what you can. Rupert is lucky to have a Mama Bean who works hard to make sure he gets what he needs! Not all beans would do that...a lot would just give up. You are here, doing whatever you need, changing things around as needed, to make sure Rupert is healthy. You're doing great!

Awww, thanks Rachel, it is difficult and I am impatient to get him his numbers down. I have looked at other SS (including Gypsy) and yes, they are all different! It can be very confusing sometimes. I have tried different testing/feeding/dosage times, not confident I learned all that much, but all knowledge is good (a smart lady said that here), so it was not a waste of time and effort. Today we are taking a little break from BG tests, we did a lot in the last few days, so I will do the AMPS, PMPS and a few others only. Rupert and I are going to chill a bit today. Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement!
