Confused about relapse or temporary high

So Seymour has been in remission for a month, my husband and I had to go out if town for 3 days. When we came back he tested high 225 so I fed him and gave him his originally prescribed 1.5 units of Lantus. I took him to the vet last night because i had a faulty test strip reading of 685 after 4 hours since his injection. It was 255 at the vet, he was stressed, also ketone test was 0.0. They said it could be a temporary high instead of full relapse. I tested him again this morning and it was 252 so I gave him breakfast and insulin. How do I know if its a temporary high or relapse? Should I keep giving him insulin? I forgot to ask my vet.

Stress can definitely temporary inflate numbers. Last year when Pookey had a dental procedure (I know a bit different than your situation, but still), he was over 300 on a pet meter at the vet. Came back down nicely on his own at home.

Lantus dosing is based on how low the dose takes them during the cycles. We'll need some more information. Are you able to share some blood glucose numbers in a spreadsheet? The members here will be able to help you better if you have it in that format, they have decades of experience looking at trends in that environment.

So since his discharge with diabetes through DKA diagnosis (8/22/26) I've only had to give him insulin 2x. The morning after his discharge and today. His numbers have been steadfastly 80-150 for a month until last night.
