    Hi everyone,

sorry for keep posting and asking alot but I am really concerned about my cat and it seems that nothing is working here.

so she had a gum infection since January and they kept giving her Convenia which did nothing, three months later they ectracted 5 teeth and again gave her Convenia which again did nothing, I asked for second X- rays which shown that the ectraction is ckean with no root or anything but the infection reached the bone little bit ( seems that the infection is now on her lower gum where other teeth is ). So now the Vet prescriped Clidamycin 75mg and gabapentin 300 mg ( she told me to dessolve the capsule powder in water and give he 1ml twice daily) the taste is horrible. She was doing well on the first three days then i start the gabapentin on day 4 and 5, the day next she had a very sever vomitting which i di not know if it is from tha antibiotic or pain killer, I took her back to the vet for nausea shot and stomach relief, the vet told me to give the Clindamycin another try before change it because it is the best for bone infection. I start it again today after 2 days of rest.

I can not just watch my cat suffering from this infection and I do not know if it is Stomatitis or just infection, i read alot about stomatitis and how bad is it, as i read the teeth infection can damage pther organs such as kidney if not treate it well ( which i think caused her kidney value little elevated) , even after 5 days her gum still redness, the vet said that we need a little long time on antibiotic.

I asked her if a full teeth extraction will help, she said that we might end up to this but it is not an option now because she is diabetec and it is major surgery and the healing process for her will be slow because of her immune system as diabetic cat.

I am just scared watching her in pain and lethargic with less apetite.

dose Clindamycin upset the stomach??! Should I continue using it and could this be Stomatitis or it just can be normal infection , they did not treate it with wright atibiotic from the begining and now I am just worried, she looks weak and barley eat after the vomitting, but i gave to her again today with her meal and gave her some yougert after to help.

any suggestion please and help about the Clindamicin or Gabapentin side effect and how can i deal with it?

What is the different between Stomatitis and normal infection, the vet mentioned that it might be bacterial infection ? Is it the same?

I don’t have experience with diabetes and stomatitis. My Pixie is not diabetic but developed stomatitis several years ago. She had most of her teeth extracted -she only has three fangs and her little front teeth left- and since has had no recurrence. My understanding is that stomatitis is an autoimmune response, sort of like the cat is allergic to its own mouth (plaque, saliva, bacteria). The inflammation can go into the throat as well as attacking the gums and mouth tissue.

Here’s an article about it: https://www.mypetsdentist.com/feline-stomatitis.pml

There’s also a Facebook group (search feline stomatitis, they have calicivirus in their name).

Yes! Most definitely, I can speak from personal experience. It is very important to be giving a probiotic - 2 hours apart from the Clindamycin. It is a much better antibiotic for the mouth. I gave it to Neko as well, and made sure she was getting her probiotic too.

We have had diabetic kitties here with stomatitis who have had FME (full mouth extractions). @Yanna is a current member, but I remember others as well. Perhaps your vet should forward you to a dental vet specialist?

Actually we do not have her a dental specialist, I just want to know if it Stomatities or normal Infection, the vet keep saying that it is an infection. If i will end up with full mouth extraction then why to let her suffer now from all this antibiotics with a chance for the infection to come back?

the only probiotic that i have now is forti flora? Is it ok ?

A lot of people here use Jarrow’s S boulardi with MOS.
I'm sorry, Rawia, I can't quite remember which country you are in to check if it is available there on short notice.
It's the S boulardi that is the important part. Look for something lactose-free. Some cats cannot handle lactose.

    S. boulardi is more for diarrhea - not for combating upset tummy from antibiotics. Plus you have to make sure her B12 levels are OK before s. boullardi will work. Lots of people give Renew Life Ultimate Flora. I have an equivalent one in Canada.

Yes i read about S boulardii but as i knew it is for diharea as you mentioned, i have some online sites that i can check.

i thought that not all human antibiotica are safe for cats

It's probiotic you want not antiobiotica - and I've never heard of human probiotics being a problem for cats. A lot of cat foods even have some included in the ingredients now.

My cat got a tooth pulled when she got diagnosed with the diabetes.
Did the vet take an x-ray of the mouth?

Yes, i asked for check up X-rays after tooth extraction to be sure that nothing left out cause the infection and discomfort, everything were the 5 teeth pulled was fine , she had little redness and sore gum on the lower right jaw which reach the bone and caused this.
