GA Cinna final update :(

Yesterday we said goodbye to Cinna.

Right before going off the juice a couple of months ago, our sweet little old man had been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Despite this, he had been doing very well clinically until this long weekend when he declined rapidly.

As heartbreaking as it was to say goodbye, we take great comfort in knowing he never suffered and that we were able to give him a good life these last two and a bit years. In his final days he was spoilt and loved on, and his passing was calm and peaceful at home thanks to a mobile veterinarian who did a wonderful job.

I'll be forever grateful to the folks here at FMDB for helping me get his diabetes under control. It made a huge difference to his quality of life once he was back in the green. This community really is special and I hope you all continue to surf safely and make your way to the falls!
 
Goodbye glorious, royal kitty Cinna. May your memory be for a blessing.

Ali! I was really shocked to see this condo. I though (and hoped) you'd put the wrong prefix by mistake.

I'm so sorry to read the news. You were great parents and it's a comfort that he didn't suffer and had a calm and peaceful passing at home.

I really wish we'd had more time with him, especially after getting his diabetes under control he was doing so well. We adopted him a couple of years ago, he was about 14.5 years old. Seniors are my favorite rescues, they have so much love to give. Unfortunately you end up dealing with end-of-life a lot sooner than you'd like, but it comes with the territory. I'm really thankful I was able to give him the best life possible in his golden years. :)
 
I must say you have a very strong will, to be able to adopt older kitties knowing full well your time with them will be limited. That sounds emotionally taxing, I don't think I would have the stomach for it!

I too was shocked to see this thread, so sorry for your loss but I cannot find words to properly convey how much I respect what you did for him, to give him such good care and love and a peaceful passing on. We need more people in this world like you!

@Hendrick Cuddleclaw - eventually with any animal you care for you have to face end-of-life or medical drama, with seniors it's just sooner rather than later. That said, I'm completely horrible at dealing with any sort of health issue, animal or people, it's super stressful for me. As much as I love the community here on FMDB, reading some of what people are dealing with stresses me out lol. I don't know how you all do it. I would have loved to get into animal health/rescue as a career but I figured out pretty soon the emotional component made it a non-starter.

My clever plan was to foster animals and avoid having to make these types of decisions. I'm sure I'll foster fail another senior at some point. Sweet senior cat purrs and snuggles are worth it! :)
 
I've been away from the FDMB for a few days so when I came across this I was very saddened. I followed Cinna's OTJ journey and my heart breaks for you. May he fly high and land softly on the other side. I hope you will find comfort in knowing you gave him a wonderful life and took such great care of him. RiP Cinna cat_wings>o:rb_icon:
