Chin Rash?

Over the last two weeks Rudy has developed little bumps on his chin. They end up bleeding and oozing a clear liquid- very little blood and liquid- like a drop. Not sure what to do or what it is. I thought maybe it is kitty acne? I started wiping it with a wet cloth and some peroxide to clean it. Should I take him to the vet?

Looks like chin acne. Some of mone had that in the past. I cleaned mine with iodine solution and also opened up the large sorces with a needle so they could drain. I cleaned twice daily. Sometimes antibiotics are required.
Are you using either glazed ceramic or stainless steel water and food bowls and cleaning them frequently?
 
My Tasha has had chin acne from time to time as well. It's gotten better since switching her to ceramic and steel bowls, though her timed feeder is plastic. I make it a point to clean those regularly.

My vet at the time recommended a warm compress and using Stridex pads (human acne pads) on her chin. We also did antibiotics. This was pre-diabetes diagnosis, probably a year or so ago? Since the initial bad outbreak, she still gets occasional spots but not as bad.

They can get painful and infected - you might want to go to the vet to make sure it's acne and see if they feel antibiotics are necessary. Good luck!
 
Thanks! He currently has plastic food bowls that we are cleaning daily...but I guess I'll be shopping this weekend for new ones :-)
How long did it take to clear up? and what would you watch for infection? I'll try keeping it cleaner. Probably at least morning evening and before bed. I am hoping it will go away with out taking him to the vet, it really stresses him out :-(
 
Looks like it was late 2013 when Tasha had the chin acne issues and even with the antibiotics, we fought with it for a good couple of months. With your kitty's chin looking that bad, I'd make an appointment and have it checked out. It's possible it's something else. It's very likely it's already infected. As for stressing at the vet, Tasha is/was the queen of vet stress. She still screams at us the whole way there and growls for the entire exam. But we switched vets and she seems to like the new one better so at least it's an improvement.
 
I second everyone suggesting chin acne. Stainless steel, ceramic or glass bowls work great.

My cat was on antibiotic plus a stridex type wipe. Cleared up pretty quickly.
 
It looks like it might be to the stage that Stridex pads are going to sting pretty bad. My vets gave us Pyoben gel when our cats got this bad. We washed with a warm wet wash cloth and then applied the Pyoben gel to help clear up the infection.
 
Once of my four has it every now and then even though now i dont have any plastic bowls any longer. My vet said to comb out the black specks regularly. While infected, she said to use an antifungal cream every day and use the stridex pad every couple of days. Once it goes away, use the stridex pad and antifungal cream once in a while for maintenance. The antifungal cream is the same stuff that is used for jock itch. Since i am female, it is embarrassing to buy...but for my babies I will.

This post has convinced me to get rid of Hannah's plastic water bowls. Will be replacing them with stainless steel, the next trip to Walmart. In the meantime, have washed them good with soap and water. She's never had chin acne, but it doesn't look like anything she needs to deal with, either.:eek:
 
We don't use plastic bowls any longer but my girl still gets acne every couple of months. Not sure what the trigger is since the bowls are ceramic or stainless steel. Also I feed them on small Styrofoam disposable plates. So even if you buy new bowls, your kitty may still have the problem on occasion. I think mine has some allergies anyway since she sneezes more than the others.
