Hello everyone been awhile since I have posted but Mumu has gone OTJ and I hope for it to stay that way.

He is currently eating Tiki Cat® Puka Puka Luau succulent chicken 3 2.8 oz cans per day. I would like to keep him on this food but the sales are few and far between and it is starting to take its toll on how expensive it is.

I have reviewed the food charts and cant find many available with 0 carbs or some kind of food that is very similar to this, I have seen new brands come out that aren't available on the food charts as well.

Does anyone have a good suggestion to another brand that is 0 carbs preferably chicken?

I also wanted to ask some of the more experienced users if his 7.1-7.8's is normal range to be in after being taken off the Lantus, he doesn't seem to be dropping below 7 now.

And finally would treats halfway during the day between his two meals be OK obviously something diabetic friendly with 0 carbs.

Any suggestion/advice to these questions would be greatly appreciated, more so to the change in his main food source, I know to "not rock the boat" advice but 250$ per month is too much.

Thank you for all the advice and for reading, take care.

Hi, sorry you haven't go any responses. If you post on the Lantus forum, it's possible you will get more eyes on your posts from other Lantus users.

I'm not in the US so I can't help with the food question. I know Dr. Lisa's food charts are a little outdated and not exhaustive. There are low carb options in many brands - Fancy Feast, Friskies, Tiki Cat, Weruva - to name a few popular brands. I think Fancy Feast Classics, Friskies Pates, Special Kitty (Walmart brand) are some of the more economic options available.

In terms of low carb treats, you have freeze dried meat - can't remember the brand names - Ziwi Peak and one more.

Let me tag a few others to give you inputs on food options in the US.

On the dosing front, his numbers are trending higher. Even for the AT. You might want to start him on a low dose of 0.10U or 0.25U. Tagging @tiffmaxee for dosing advice.

Bella likes Tiki too. I find that the 5.5 oz cans are cheaper, and I get them through Chewy, with a subscription you get a discount every time and it ships free. Some of their foods have very low carbs, including the one you have, but also the Tiki After Dark ones, except for the one with eggs. I will tag you on another discussion.

Unfortunately Chewy doesn't ship to Canada, I was just looking for a cheaper alternative to this type of food without sacrificing the ingredient list to a huge extent, but I will keep searching.

I agree that Bhooma that he needs insulin. We would have reduced from .50 to .25 and then 0.10. Some even need a drop dose next. We dint know how low his bg goes. It would help to get a test 3-4 hours after eating. I would start back at .25 if you can monitor closely at first Or 0.10 if that’s not possible because we don’t want his bg to go any higher.

I just updated his SS he went from 7.7 amps to 6.7 +3.

He’s not hitting normal bg. He needs some insulin. Hopefully it won’t be for long. I’m going to tag Wendy as she’s in Canada and also to see if she thinks .25 or 0.10. @Wendy&Neko

Do you happen to know the carb & phosphorus % on the Tikicat pate's? My sugar boy doesn't like weruva, so they are still eating fancy feast but would live to try Tikicat.

There is also this, https://catinfo.org/chart/index.php I seen on another post if it helps. I think this food has really helped Mumu heal and have been trying to buy on sales but they are few and far between, I have also called the places that bulk ship them in Canada to let them know about the food and how it is good for diabetics to try entice sales (not sure if it will but i left suggestions to management) to help others.

Oh my bad. I specifically chose US members forgetting that you are in Canada. Here are a few Canadian members:

@Jodey&Eddie&Blue
@Virginie
@Carole & Indigo
@Amy & Herman
@Chris and Checkers

Eddie eats TikiCat Chicken and Egg Mousse, which is available readily from petfood stores. I mix it with Weruva b.f.f. Play pate (chicken based), which I buy online. it's low carb and Eddie gets two full meals and two snacks daily.

Eddie's brother, Blue, needs low phosphorus/low carb and he gets Weruva Press Your Dinner, likewise two meals, two snacks.

In Canada you can order almost any brand online fro https://www.petonly.ca/
Hope this helps!

This site https://www.petland.ca/ is slightly cheaper been using this or holmes alive (when they have it on sale), petsmart is the cheapest of all three but unfortunately they are never available for bulk orders.

Weruva has a lot of low carb low phosphorus options, their website is great and lists all nutritional info. I use Weruva to prop my boy up when he needs it.
I’m not much help for wet food, I switched to commercial raw in May. I don’t know if this is something you would be interested in, it is low carb as well as low phosphorus

In Canada you can get Weruva at Pet Valu stores. On the West coast that is Tisol and Bosleys. You can shop online too. Paw lickin Chicken is 2-3% carbs.
